Zurkie is a minor character appearing in Rift Apart from Rivet's dimension. He is the dimensional counterpart of the Mr. Zurkon in Ratchet's dimension and is physically identical to him, only Zurkie has no weapon attachments. He is the life partner of Ms. Zurkon and the father of Zurkon Jr.
He is the founder of Zurkie's Gastropub and Battleplex, a Zurkon family-owned business in the Scarstu Debris Field. In contrast to Mr. Zurkon, who enjoys violence, he is a pacifist and his gastropub prohibits violence outside of Zurkon Jr.'s Battleplex.
History[]
Before Rift Apart[]
Sometime years prior to the events of Rift Apart, Zurkie was the same as his counterpart Mr. Zurkon and was a synthenoid who "conducted symphonies of pain". When Scarstu was destroyed, Zurkie changed his ways after pondering the mass extinction he had caused and realizing that the two things he could not kill were hunger and thirst.[1][a]
Zurkie built a gastropub that could slay the feelings of hunger and thirst, while his wife built a side business selling and upgrading weapons, and Zurkon Jr. set up a battle arena.[1] The gastropub became a rest-stop for galactic travelers wishing to remain off the grid, and as such, its clientele largely comprised a mix of criminals and freedom fighters. His diner also sold the "best flurgberry pie this side of Zanifar".[2]
Rift Apart[]
Due to the dimensional crisis caused by Dr. Nefarious, the dining room at Zurkie's was located in another dimension, though this served as a perk for the business due to its clientele.[2]
In "Locate the Part to Repair Clank", Rivet and Clank came to Zurkie's to find Pierre Le Fer, looking for a signal booster to repair Clank's communicator. Zurkie greeted Rivet before Pierre approached her, and after Pierre refused to give the part, Rivet challenged him to a fight for the part. Zurkie objected, reminding them that his pub was a violence-free zone, ordering them to take it to the Battleplex.[3]
When Dr. Nefarious ambushed Ratchet, Clank, Rivet, and Kit as they meet up at Zurkie's to assemble the new Dimensionator, Zurkie was seen being held up by a Nefarious Lasertrooper. Later at Zurkie's, after Emperor Nefarious broadcasts his declaration to invade Ratchet and Clank's dimension, Zurkie was amongst Ratchet and Rivet's allies, but did not accompany them to Megalopolis, Corson V.
Depicted in the end credits, Zurkie, Ms. Zurkon, and Zurkon Jr. were together at their Battleplex, amongst the wreckage of a large pile of destroyed Nefarious Troopers. All three of them brandished their arm mounted blasters, implying they destroyed the Troopers together and that Zurkie had given up to his pacifism ideals.
Characteristics[]
Zurkie has an identical appearance to his counterpart, Mr. Zurkon: he is a small flying torso robot with no legs and a large head, but unlike Mr. Zurkon, he does not have a blaster in place of his right arm (until the credits scene).
Zurkie has a small presence in Rift Apart, and little is known of his personality. Though he is opposed to violence in his pub and practices pacifism for himself, the fact that his life partner Ms. Zurkon and his son Zurkon Jr. practice and sponsor it suggests that he does not enforce his ideals on his family.
Notes[]
Annotations[]
- ↑ It is possible that Zurkie worked for Emperor Nefarious as, in the narration, the destruction of Scarstu is described as something he caused.[1]
