Sargasso spores,[a] also known as Volatilis Inflatus, are enemies in Secret Agent Clank. They are mature organic spores[2] from the Sargasso Reach who drift through the cosmos, many wound up in the spaceship graveyard, with Clank encountering them there during "Tracking the Kingpin". Every known living being is said to be allergic to them. The spores have an immature variant called the Crudus Inflatus,[b] which have far less sensitive tentacles.[1]

The Volatilis Inflatus can detect threats with their tentacles, and will promptly fly to them and explode in an attempt to eliminate them. They can be easily dealt with using ranged weapons such as the Tie-A-Rang, for which limitless ammo will be supplied in the event Clank runs out.

Several clusters of rooted spores.

Once the Sargasso spore matures it grows a long stem to root itself in place; this is done to nourish itself with vitamins, with the optimal spot being Sargasso's vitamin rich surface.[1] These larger Volatilis Inflatus are seen rooted in a cargo ship that the primary space kudzu had assimilated, this variety is stationary and regenerates shortly after detonating.

Behind the scenes[]

More information on the Sargasso spores are given in unused Holo-Monocle entries. A stationary less mature variant called the Crudus Inflatus have an entry; they live in constant envy of their more mobile cousins and to be packed full of volatile chemicals. Additionally, the large Volatilis Inflatus encountered in the cargo ship have unused Holo-Monocle details, with it noting that their self-destruction is more potent than the less mature variety.

Notes[]

Annotations[]

  1. Both the classification and homeworld are improperly listed as 'Sargasso', as the Holo-Monocle is unable to fully display both entries.
  2. Full name only given in an unused Holo-Monocle entry, the in-game entry only refers to them as "Crudus".
