If you have replayed the game in Challenge Mode, you lose all of your gadgets, so the discount will not be applied. One of your save data (it does not matter which) has to have the Hologuise. The discount does not apply to armor.

Gadgetron vendor from R&C (2002) render

A Gadgetron vendor, in Ratchet & Clank

Vendors are a recurring device in the Ratchet & Clank series used to distribute weapons, weapon upgrades and modifications, ammo, and armor. They are a computer which accept bolts and Raritanium as payment to then send over the purchased item, and are placed in several locations throughout the universe, which Ratchet and Clank interface with to purchase their weapons throughout their adventures.

Vendors often appear close to a continue point, which is normally a landing site near Ratchet's ship, a position half-way through a mission, or a position just prior to a boss fight. In some titles, they also refill Ratchet's nanotech when interfaced with. They are normally operated by the weapons manufacturer of the galaxy, notably Gadgetron Corporation in the Solana Galaxy, Megacorp in the Bogon Galaxy, and Grummel Net Industries in the Polaris Galaxy.

Appearances

Ratchet & Clank (2002)

The first vendor is a blue Gadgetron vendor, with Moby as the salesman. It sells most base weapons in Ratchet & Clank, with the exception of the Bomb Glove (given for free at the start), R.Y.N.O. (purchased from the Shady Salesman on Rilgar), the Suck Cannon (obtained in the missions "Explore the mills" on Eudora), and the Morph-o-Ray (obtained in the mission "Search the destroyed city" on Oltanis).

Additionally, the gold weapons room found in the Gemlik Base and on Novalis during challenge mode sells gold weapons, upgrades for base weapons, purchased with a mix of bolts and gold bolts. Five of these are available in a normal playthrough in the Gemlik Base' room only, and all ten are available in challenge mode.

Going Commando

A Megacorp vendor

During Going Commando, all Megacorp weapons are purchased from Megacorp vendors, aside from the Lancer and Gravity Bomb, which are given to Ratchet at the start, and the Sheepinator, which is obtained in "Explore the Weapons Facility" on Todano. These vendors have drastically different design to Gadgetron's, and when purchasing ammo for a weapon, will default to filling the ammo for the weapon. All armor is purchased from Megacorp armor vendors with a similar design, found on Dobbo, Boldan, Snivelak, Grelbin, and Oozla during challenge mode.

In addition, Slim Cognito sold weapon mods in exchange for platinum bolts on Endako, Tabora, and Boldan. He also operated Slim Cognito's Ship Shack, which sold modifications for the Star Explorer in exchange for raritanium.

Up Your Arsenal

In Up Your Arsenal, Ratchet and Clank returned to the Solana Galaxy during the tyhrranoid invasion, and as such, returned to using Gadgetron vendors and products. These are identical in form factor to those in Ratchet & Clank, but are orange-colored and have a menu with an entirely different appearance, more similar to those from the Megacorp vendors.

On the Starship Phoenix, players can also try out new weapons for free on the VR deck. Additionally, if the player has a Ratchet & Clank save data with the Hologuise gadget obtained, they will get a 10% discount on all Gadgetron weapons and upgrades in Up Your Arsenal.

In addition to Gadgetron vendors, Slim Cognito also sells Megacorp weapons on Aquatos. The Lava Gun and Miniturret Glove are initially available, though more become unlocked later in the game.

Deadlocked

File:DZ Vendor.png

A DreadZone vendor

In Ratchet: Deadlocked, Ratchet and Clank were kidnapped by Vox Industries and forced to participate in the holovision program DreadZone in the Shadow Sector. During the competitions, Ratchet used DreadZone vendors, which sold weapons and weapon modifications. These vendors were quite different from usual vendors in form factor, somewhat similar to the Megacorp vendors with their pyramid-shaped base, but colored red and yellow with a holographic screen displaying the DreadZone logo. In addition to weapon vendors, there was a DreadZone combat bot vendor at Big Al's workshop at the DreadZone Station. It was used to upgrade and customize Ratchet's combat bots, allowing him to change their paint job, head style, and weapons.

Size Matters

In Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, Ratchet and Clank decided to take a vacation and returned to Solana on planet Pokitaru. Being back in Solana, the orange Gadgetron vendors returned to use. The menu had changed a bit with the color background thereof was changed to light gray. Slim Cognito's weapon modification vendor also returned.

Secret Agent Clank

In Secret Agent Clank, Clank used Agency vendors, disguised as telephone boxes which sells both weapons and gadgets. They sold products for both Ratchet and Clank; those which were intended for Ratchet would have a red background, and would gifted to him in prison.

Future saga

A GrummelNet device vendor

Starting with Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and ending with Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, Ratchet and Clank operated in the Polaris Galaxy, which largely used GrummelNet products, and as such, used GrummelNet vendors. There were three different GrummelNet vendors, selling weapons, devices, and armor. Each came with a Grummel clone to assist customers, with the armor vendor Grummel having the mannerisms of an outfit attendant and a virtual dressing room beside it. The Polaris Defense Initiative 1887-Upsilon permitted some number of GrummelNet vendors within proximity of populous civilizations, making them very popular. [citation needed]

Ratchet & Clank (2016)

Gadgetron vendor from R&C (2016)

A Gadgetron vendor, in Ratchet & Clank

A blue Gadgetron vendor appears similar to the original title. It sells all weapons with the exception of the Combuster (acquired for free in the mission "Return to the garage" on Veldin), the Predator Launcher (obtained during the mission "Search the Blarg Warship for weapons" in Nebula G34), and the RYNO (acquired after obtaining all RYNO holocards and giving them to the Shady Salesman on Rilgar). It is also possible to purchase weapon upgrades for each weapon using Raritanium. In challenge mode, once a full holocard set for a weapon is complete, the Omega version becomes available.
