The Vela Sector is a sector of the Polaris Galaxy featured in A Crack in Time. It is one of five sectors of the Breegus System, located south of the Phylax Sector. The sector is home to Torren IV, a junkyard planet that was formerly a fongoid habitat that since became a vullard home, and Terachnos, the native home of the terachnoids.
An unnamed counterpart to the sector exists in Rivet's dimension, where a dimensional counterpart of Torren IV is located.
History[]
Torren IV was once home to a fongoid metropolis before they abandoned it eons ago, taking the soil but leaving all technology behind.[1][2] In the years since, the vullards mined the world for lost technology, but kept their operation hidden from galactic authorities.[3]
Terachnos was voted the "Weakest Planet in the Universe" for 4,000 years straight,[2] but its citizens are known as the most intelligent lifeforms in the universe.[4]
Alister Azimuth, in exile, made Torren IV, and thus the Vela Sector, his hideout. During A Crack in Time, Ratchet came to the sector in search of him.
While in the sector, Ratchet helped the locals. In "Tow the Vullard Ship", Station Chief Kroy paid Ratchet to tow a downed transport vessel back to hte space depot.[5] In "Retrieve core sample from Comet", a vullard from the Vullard League of Celestial Oddities requested Ratchet retrieve a frozen isotope from the core, hoping to use it to develop a new form of energy using the isotopes.[6] Lastly, in "Collect Warp Drive Components", a vullard named Orion paid Ratchet to retrieve space junk to repair his ship's grav-o-metric warp capacitor, after space pirates damaged it.[7]

Explorable moons[]
A total of four Zoni and four gold bolts can be found across the seven moons within the Vela Sector, as well as one Constructo mod. Collecting all Zoni grants the Harmonic Plating and Ship Tether upgrades for the Aphelion.
Vela Alpha[]
Vela Alpha is a lava moon that requires the hoverboots to complete. It features a series of long rows of platforms floating high in the air, forming an impromptu hoverboots course with accelerators, ramps, and spring pads. It has two different paths, one leading to a Zoni and the other to a gold bolt.
Vela Beta[]
Vela Beta is a bright blue moon amidst a cluster of asteroids and large ice crystals. It has a bright blue sea but can only be traversed via platforms, starting with the hoverboots. Several thrashers and Breegus wasps are encountered on the way to the Zoni at the end of the path. The wasps, an ice variant, are best fought with the Sonic Eruptor due to its spread and their tendency to appear in groups and linger above paths of moving platforms and jets of fire.
A gold bolt can also be found by gliding down to a lone structure after the initial hoverboots segment.
Vela Delta[]
Vela Delta is a desert moon covered in hazardous quicksand. Pyrospinners are the only enemies present. It features a series of tall plateaus on pillars connected by moving platforms, some with fire-expelling jets. At the end of the path, a Zoni can be found.
Vela Gamma[]
Vela Gamma is an ice moon inhabited by several vullards and littered with piles of junk. There are several small hills, some with accelerators. Some hills and junk piles hide crates from view. A lone Zoni can be seen flying around, fleeing to a circular area bordered by stone pillars. Upon entering the area, a swarm of thrashers spawns, including several ranged variants. A gold bolt can also be found inside a small crater.
Vela Epsilon[]
Vela Epsilon is a lava moon inhabited only by Pyrospinners, thrashers, Breegus wasps, and battery bots. The battery bots have to be caught and thrown into sockets to reactivate platforms. It features minor platforming elements and hazards such as versa-targets, toxic gas vents, and a catapult.
Vela Sigma[]
Vela Sigma is a metal moon inhabited solely by small zyphoids. It features several tubes through which zyphoids can be seen being transported. It also has a few air vents expelling toxic gases and a teleport system that always leads back to the landing platform. Defeating all sixty zyphoids grants the Timed Trigger for the Constructo Bomb.
Vela Tau[]
Vela Tau is a metal moon inhabited by a few Splitterbots and many Microdrones. Defeating all fifty enemies grants a gold bolt.
Space missions[]
All space missions require the use of the Ship Tether, and all grant 3,000 bolts upon completion.
Tow the Vullard Ship[]
"Tow the Vullard Ship" is automatically offered upon approaching the Vela Depot with a Ship Tether equipped. Station Chief Kroy will hail the Aphelion and request to be towed to a nearby downed transport vessel back to the Depot. Tow the ship with upon approaching it, then return to the Depot. While en route, an ambush by Nefarious' fighters will occur, who leave after twenty ships are destroyed. Retrieve the vullard vessel afterwards, and release it at the depot to complete the mission.
Retrieve core sample from Comet[]
"Retrieve core sample from Comet" can be started by talking to the vullard at the Vela Depot, provided the Ship Tether has been acquired. A vullard from the Vullard League of Celestial Oddities has a request to chase a comet and retrieve a frozen isotope from its core. Along with the Ship Tether, the Harmonic Plating upgrade will also be unlocked, making survival within the comet's tail easier.
The isotope takes a lot of damage before it can be removed, so flying alongside and shooting at it from afar reduces the chance of inadvertently destroying the Aphelion. Return the isotope to the Depot with the Tether for the reward.
The isotope will respawn upon returning to the sector from either a planet or another sector, allowing it to be collected and sold over and over.
Collect Warp Drive Components[]
"Collect Warp Drive Components" can be started by talking to the stalled vullard cargo vessel, provided the Ship Tether has been unlocked. He requests for the Tether to be used to gather nearby space junk, three parts in total, and return them to his ship. The space junk is floating nearby, and all that needs to be done is grab a piece, accelerate towards the vullard's ship, and let go to let momentum carry it the rest of the way.
