Ratchet & Clank (2002) logo

The Ultra-Mech Scientist is a character in Ratchet & Clank with a cameo in Up Your Arsenal. He was hired by the blarg to design and mass-produce Ultra-Mech Unlimiteds on Quartu, designing an Ultra-Mech Pad that took smaller robots to transform them into massive, heavily armed killing machines within seconds. However, he was unaware that it was Chairman Drek who hired him.[1] This technology is instead used to create Giant Clank. He is a friendly, well-meaning scientist who appears to be of the same species as Fred and the Inventor from Going Commando.

The Ultra-Mech Scientist was voiced by Neil Flynn.

History

Ratchet & Clank

Hmm... was it pi over infinity or...?

Ratchet and Clank meeting the Ultra-Mech Scientist.

The Scientist met Ratchet and Clank after "Find out more about the Ultra-Mech," where he was trying to destroy his Ultra-Mech Pad enlargement device to prevent more Ultra-Mechs from being created. Rather than destroying it, the three instead decided to use it to enlarge Clank, creating Giant Clank, for the mission, "Destroy the Ultra-Mechs." After the duo destroyed them, the Ultra-Mech Scientist was able to revert Clank back to his original size, despite this only being possible in theory.[1] The Scientist then gave Ratchet and Clank an infobot with a commercial for the Hologuise on Kalebo III, and recalibrated the controls on the pad to only allow Clank's circuit pattern.[2]

Up Your Arsenal

The Ultra-Mech Scientist later appeared watching the premier of the Secret Agent Clank film.
