Trudi is a ridable mount appearing in Rift Apart and is a native to planet Sargasso in Rivet's dimension. A Pterafoid Flyer that was raised by the Morts since she fell out of the nest years ago, she is a good, longtime friend of them and Rivet. Trudi is able to carry three times her weight while airborne, making her perfect for Rivet's scouting missions, transporting mid-sized mining equipment around the swamp, or executing lemonade runs for the Mort's Saturday Night Swamp Socials. On Sargasso, Trudi can only be mounted and dismounted from at specific perches in the area. Ratchet very briefly rode on the back of a wild Pterafoid Flyer whilst falling through multiple dimensional rifts early into Rift Apart but he never rides Trudi, only Rivet.
She appears as part of the optional side mission; "Help Trudi", where Rivet collects Zurpstones for her and after collecting enough is able to ride on her back to fly over the area to collect the rest that were inaccessible. Later, she helps Rivet in defending the planet from Emperor Nefarious and his armies. Rivet and the Morts also bring her with them to Megalopolis to help in the final battle against the Emperor's forces invading Ratchet and Clank's dimension.
History[]
Rift Apart[]
After Rivet fixes Clank's communicator and they leave Zurkie's, a male Mort that Rivet has known for many years leaves a message for her, requesting that she come back to Sargasso and help Trudi. When asked by Clank who this is, she replies that Trudi is a friend and Mort would not have asked if it wasn't important. Upon arriving on Sargasso in front of the Gelatonium factory, Rivet finds a sickly looking Trudi lying on one of her perches being consoled by the Mort. Mort however assures Rivet that Trudi is just hungry and was enjoying one of the Morts' parties the previous night and forgot to eat anything. Trudi usually flies to the rock islands in the area to find Zurpstones to eat, but is to too weak to do it herself currently. Rivet assures them it is no problem and collects fifteen of the Zurpstones for Trudi to eat and get her strength back. The Mort then makes a deal with Rivet and if she collects another fifteen, he will give her an Armor Pod containing Galactic Ranger Boots. After doing this and collecting thirty in total, the Mort rewards Rivet with the Ranger Boots and offers to give her a Resistance Spybot if she is able to find all sixty. Trudi expresses her desire to help Rivet find the rest of them. Rivet rides on Trudi's back and is now able to access more areas with Zurpstones that were previously out of reach thanks to Trudi's flying capabilities. Upon collecting another fifteen with forty-five in total, the Mort informs Rivet over her communicator that all the Zurpstones have given Trudi enough strength to breath fire and shoot fireballs to hit and collect the last remaining Zurpstones in the highest areas of the Outpost. After finally getting all sixty Zurpstones, the Mort surprises Rivet with the good news that Trudi is pregnant. This overjoys Rivet to hear and promises she will throw Trudi the biggest baby shower the planet has ever seen.
Later when Emperor Nefarious invades Sargasso with his armies, the Morts send Trudi to help Rivet stop the Battle Cruisers from blasting the planet's core and destroying it. Trudi uses her fireball attack to shoot the power generator on the deck of one of the Cruisers and destroy it, however the remaining ships are ordered by the Emperor to stabilize their energy shields that are impervious to any attacks Trudi, Rivet or Kit can muster. Just when the situation appears grim, a female Mort contacts Rivet and tells her the Morts have created powerful bombs out of their Gelatonium waste stashes and they can be used to break through the Cruiser's shields. Trudi picks up the bombs with her talons and tosses them at the ships; breaking the shields and destroying their power generators. After the planet is saved, Trudi drops Rivet and Kit off by a crowd of celebrating Morts and flies off.
Trudi is later captured at some point along with many of the Morts and imprisoned at Zordoom on Viceron. She and the rest of the inmates are freed by Rivet after she makes a lone desperate jail break to save her friends. Later, Trudi travels with Ratchet and Rivet's allies to Megalopolis to help them in the final fight against the Emperor's forces. Rivet rides on Trudi's back and instructs Ratchet to try and distract Emperor Nefarious so she can try and grab the Dimensionator off of him from above. Emperor Nefarious and Dr. Nefarious disappear into a rift however and Rivet misses her chance. They fly down the city's Midtown Skyway, shooting Nefarious Troopers with Trudi's fireballs and wait for the Emperor to make his move, until he emerges from a rift piloting his Imperial Power Suit. The giant mech spooks Trudi and Rivet gets thrown off her back, through a rift and onto a rooftop, where she battles the Power Suit. Trudi is last seen in the ending credits where she is seen flying on Sargasso along with three others of her kind, who are presumed to be her offspring.
Characteristics[]
Trudi is quite intelligent and communicates very effectively with the Morts using seemingly unintelligible screeches. In turn, she can also easily understand the speech of Rivet and the Morts. She and Rivet share a bond of kinship as they are both outsiders without families, that were sheltered by the Mort community on Sargasso and joined in their customs. Her and Rivet have a history of friendship together. After helping Rivet collect all sixty of the Zurpstones, the Mort remarks he had not seen Trudi so excited since the time her and Rivet snuck into Big Mort's game night. Trudi takes part in the Morts' parties they host each week and on one such occasion spent so much time dancing throughout the night, she had forgotten to eat and did not have the energy to get Zurpstones for herself the next day. During these parties, Trudi seems to be a frequent heckler of Big Mort at his performances.
She greatly enjoys eating Zurpstones and especially with the addition of Flurtian Spice sprinkled on them. Both Rivet and some of the Morts enjoy riding on Trudi's back as she flys on ocassion, but they regrettably do not have the time due to their work at the Gelatonium factories keeping them preoccupied. Collecting the Zurpstones with Rivet in Rift Apart seems to be the first time Trudi had been up and soaring through the skies again in some time. When she was briefly imprisoned at Zordoom, a male Mort she was incarcerated with attempted to plan an escape for them both using her powerful jaws and his know how. She raised a concern with him but the Mort assured her he had confidence in her abilities. Trudi however had some doubts and the Mort instead decided they should focus on building her confidence in herself first, although all the cells in the prison were soon unlocked from the Warden's office by Rivet.
Controls[]
When Trudi is at one of her perches, Rivet can begin riding her by either manually jumping onto her back or pressing . Trudi will automatically continuously fly forward and using her direction and altitude can be steered. to Invert Flight Controls or change the Flight Stick to in Settings. Pressing will make Trudi perform a brief speed boost forward. Holding can be used to brake in midair and hover in place. When it becomes available, her fireball projectile attack can be used by holding and aimed with with an onscreen target reticle. When flying towards a perch and it can be landed on, will appear onscreen; when pressed, Trudi will land and Rivet will automatically dismount.
If Trudi collides with a solid surface multiple times in quick succession and does not have room to fly, her and Rivet will automatically reach zero health. Strangely enough, collecting Nanotech whilst riding Trudi will inflict damage to her instead of healing.
