Tharpods are residents of planet Magnus from the Polaris Galaxy, featured in All 4 One, Ratchet & Clank (2016 game), and the movie. They are a peaceful race which worship nature and live in harmony with their pet critters. When Ratchet, Clank, Captain Qwark, and Dr. Nefarious arrived on the planet, they were a tribal race, though they had been technologically advanced prior to the rise of Ephemeris and Commander Spog, who stole their cities and forced them to live in small villages, prone to attacks by collector minions at any time.

History[]

Ratchet & Clank re-imagined[]

The 2016 re-imagined game is primarily an unreliable retelling of events by Qwark.
The re-imagined game primarily describes Captain Qwark's account of events. As Qwark is an unreliable narrator, and contradictory events are in-universe fiction (though those which correspond still apply). Please see Project:Bulletin board/Canon for the wiki's coverage of canon.

Tharpods appear in the Solana Galaxy only in the movie and Qwark's version of events. In these accounts, tharpods appear as citizens throughout planets Veldin, Kerwan, and Pokitaru, as well as in the audience for hoverboard racing on planets Rilgar and Kalebo III. The only notable tharpod character is Mr. Micron, an elderly tharpod who brings his ship to be fixed at Grimroth Razz's garage, only for Ratchet to install unnecessary modifications including Mag Boosters that cause him to demand a refund.

Tharpods have never been seen living in Solana in canonical accounts of the franchise.

Before All 4 One[]

Happier Times on Magnus 1

Tharpods on Magnus with their creature companions.

Sometime long after the destruction of Toranux and the loki possession of Magnus' local creatures, the tharpods emigrated to the planet and built a civilization.[1] They lived on Magnus in relative peace with nature for at least over a hundred years, during which the loki exploited the tharpods' affinities under the guise of their benevolent creature companions, subtly influencing them to the goal of the loki eventually restoring themselves to power. The tharpods appeared to have had limited contact with other races, with a preference to stay secluded.

Following the Ephemeris raid on Uzo City, the tharpods became nomads on their new homeworld, losing much of their civilization, and many struggling to survive. Remnants of tharpods that survived the raids lived in primitive camps, some of them, such as Susie, instead sabotaged collector bases. Often, they mustered around as collectors made room for more creature pens.

One tharpod, Dr. Croid, managed to hold out and resist collector forces, and as such, the Phonica Moon and Terawatt Forest were under his control.

When Ratchet, Clank, Qwark, and Dr. Nefarious arrived on the planet, Susie was the first tharpod they met, freeing them from the Minion Training Center and leading them back to her village in the Aldaros Plains.

Characteristics[]

Concept art - Tharpod People

Tharpod concept art.

Tharpods are a peaceful, tortoise-like species that worship nature. Many tharpods wear hard, shell-like apparel over most of their body. They are otherwise bipedal humanoids, with their arms, legs, and neck poking out from their shell-like armor. Tharpods come in many different colors on their shells and skin, with common colors being green, blue, and purple, while their shells have lightly colored highlights.

Tharpods appear to have long lifespans, as Dr. Croid had worked over 100 years on destroying Ephemeris.

Behind the scenes[]

Tharpods appear to be primarily based on tortoises, with many seen wearing hard, carapace-like apparel on their torsos, visually reminiscent of a shell. When afraid or threatened, some are also shown retracting their heads, in the same way a tortoise or turtle would. Frumpus Croid and Nevo Binklemeyer are shown to be well over 100 years old in All 4 One, lifespans that are typical of giant tortoises, which can reach beyond 150.
