Tetramites

Tetramites in a swarm.

Tetramites were small insects that travelled in swarms. They liked Breegus nectar and, as the swarm was invincible, the nectar was often used as a distraction.[1] They also could not go near water.[2] The concept and idea of them bore a lot of resemblence to the Tumfoids, which were distracted by Gelatonium, yet they were invincible. If Ratchet even touched a swarm of tetramites he would lose a large portion of his health. Collectively, they could kill Ratchet after contact in under five seconds. In Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, they were used as solutions to help pass obstacles, such as using the Breegus nectar to attract them to certain vines theat were unbreakable, at least to Ratchet's weapons. The Tetramites would then eat them and clear the path for Ratchet.

Behind the scenes

While spelt "Tetramite" in-game, the Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time Signature Series Strategy Guide had the spelling "Tetramyte".

Trivia

  • The Tetramites bore a strong resemblance to "The Swarm" from another Insomniac game, Resistance 2. It was revealed in the Insomniac Moon that their sprites were in fact grounded versions of The Swarm.
  • The Tetramite swarms had a habit of how they devoured anything and also had a strong resemblance to the scarab beetles in the movie "The Mummy".
  • If Ratchet got caught in a swarm, the Tetramites also lowered his jumping ability.
  • As troubling as they are, Tetramites are only found on 4 levels: Lumos, Zanifar, Agorian Battleplex, and the Insomniac Museum.
  • The 'vines' the Tetramites ate, are really called Voltan Ivy.
