Terachnos is a planet featured in A Crack in Time, the Ratchet & Clank comic series, and Before the Nexus. Located in the Vela Sector of the Polaris Galaxy, it is the home world of the terachnoids, a hyperintelligent species with influence throughout Polaris. The largest known city of Terachnos is Axiom City, the site of the headquarters of Pollyx Industries.
Ratchet and Alister Azimuth came to Terachnos in search of the location of an Obsidian Eye, hoping to talk to Clank. However, Dr. Nefarious' alliance with Pollyx Industries led to a clash with Nefarious' forces.
History[]
Before A Crack in Time[]
Terachnos was voted the "Weakest Planet in the Universe" for 4,000 years straight.[1] Conversely, Axiom City also won Polaris' "Brainiest Race" competition 3,000 years in a row, and its citizens brag of being home to the most intelligent lifeforms in the universe.[2]
Axiom City was home to the smartest terachnoid on record, a terachnoid named G'Narlax Frahm, who was born with seven-and-a-half brains.[1]
At some point, a terachnoid businessman and scientist named Pollyx founded Pollyx Industries, a corporation established to locate and study Zoni technology,[1] headquartered on Terachnos. Dr. Nefarious then hired them for their extensive knowledge,[3] bringing Terachnos under Nefarious' control, with his forces ostensibly protecting Axiom City's citizens.[2][a] During this period, Nefarious installed a gravity wave generator above the Terachnos stratosphere, so as to deter unauthorized ship landings.[3]
A Crack in Time[]
After Azimuth met Ratchet, he suggested traveling to Terachnos to find the location of an Obsidian Eye on Pollyx' personal computer.[5] After a rendezvous at Neurox Plaza, in "Bypass the Defense System", Azimuth contacted a Pollyx Industries insider named Jarvis to cash in on a favor that Jarvis owed him.[2] Jarvis helped them through the defense system to gain access to Pollyx Industries headquarters.
In "Infiltrate Pollyx Industries", Ratchet and Azimuth fought through Nefarious' forces to reach Pollyx' personal computer. After reaching it, Ratchet easily dispatched Pollyx and Azimuth located an Obsidian Eye in Krell Canyon, Lumos. Dr. Nefarious then contacted them, and after Ratchet inquired as to his plans, Nefarious debated explaining them before deciding to simply kill Ratchet instead, deploying a VX-99.[6] In "Destroy the VX-99", Ratchet and Azimuth teamed up to stop it from destroying the city, before heading to Krell Canyon.
In the aftermath, Lord Vorselon reported on the VX-99's destruction to Nefarious, causing Nefarious to throw a tantrum and bring in valkyries for help.[7] Kip Darling and Pepper Fairbanks reported on the story on space radio, with both them and the Axiom citizen callers to the radio show speaking positively of Ratchet.[8]
Clank later fixed the time anomalies on Terachnos from within the Great Clock.
After A Crack in Time[]
In the Ratchet & Clank comic series, as Artemis Zogg stole planets using the Helios Project, many from Terachnos called for the impeachment of Galactic President Qwark. Terachnos was then one of the planets stolen by Zogg for his Artemis Galaxy,[9] with its inhabitants enslaved and forced to work for sunlight.[10] Following Zogg's defeat, Terachnos was returned.[11]
Some time before All 4 One, Ephemeris raided Terachnos for its native creatures; namely its crumptofoxes, many of which were taken to planet Magnus to be used as host bodies for the loki.
Before the Nexus[]
Geography[]
Terachnos from space appears dark and largely covered in water, with a few continents making up its landmass. Axiom City is its only known city. Terachnoids are native to the planet, and it is also home to critters of the crumptofox species: droopy crumptofox, fuzzy crumptofox, and surly mountain crumptofox.
Axiom City is a high-tech sprawling metropolis. It is characterized by tall skyscrapers (some of which are shaped to resemble terachnoid heads), large holographic neon advertisements, and busy air traffic through its skyways between the rooftops, as well as above in the atmosphere. Among the traffic are large cargo ships transporting goods between buildings. Transport tubes are sometimes used to travel around the city, as seen with a tube from the Axiom City Spaceport to nearby Neurox Plaza.
Pollyx Industries headquarters is one of the city's major points of interest. It is a skyscraper located amidst Neurox Plaza, a complex of small plazas across rooftops of surrounding buildings. These rooftop plazas are among the few examples of rare vegetation in Axiom City, and some are characterized by water fountains with water that is floating in a zero gravity stasis mechanism.
Society[]
Axiom City is known for having the most intelligent beings in the universe,[2] namely referring to its native terachnoids.
Axiom City has a university named Axiom University, with scholarships offered.[12] One such scholarship fund, funded by Pollyx Industries celebrating acquiring the hundredth piece of Zoni technology in the Vartan Nebula, was given for the "mentally stupid", referring to applicants with an IQ below 7,000.[4]
Terachnos is known as the "Weakest Planet in the Universe",[1] and its population's aversion to physical activity prevents them making a citizen's arrest.[4] Outside of Nefarious forces protecting the planet during Ratchet's visit,[2] it has no known militia or military.[a]
The Axiom Spaceport had commuter starships to many other locations in the universe. These included Torren IV, Pokitaru, the Agorian Battleplex, Kerchu City, and the Tombli Outpost.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
In mathematics, an axiom is a statement assumed to be true.
A handful of electronic signs around the city contain lombax writing displaying the name "Angela" repeatedly.
Notes[]
Annotations[]
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 Terachnos seems to have no military allegiance to other organizations in Polaris. It appears to be outside the jurisdiction of the Polaris Defense Force (as much of the Breegus System is). Its only known entity is Pollyx Industries—a corporation, not a government—whose influence allowed them to ban Axiom citizens from traveling to the Corvus and Bernilius sectors.[4] Pollyx Industries was hired by Dr. Nefarious, aligning Terachnos with him during his time in power.[3] As Terachnos was voted the "Weakest Planet in the Universe",[1] has a population incapable of even making a citizen's arrest,[4] and its only known forces were Nefarious' forces during Ratchet's visit,[2] the planet may have no military of its own.
