Teleporter in the Ratchet & Clank (2016)

Teleporters are devices located throughout the Ratchet & Clank series to instantly travel great distances or into otherwise inaccessible places. They appear throughout various locations in the Solana, Bogon and Polaris Galaxies.

Appearances

Ratchet & Clank

Teleporter from R&C (2002) render

The original teleporter from Ratchet & Clank.

Teleporters make their debut in Ratchet & Clank, as small, grey, circular pads with a white center, which have three claws that expand and raise up in the air around the user when activated, to take them to the corresponding teleporter in an instant. Teleporters are notably used in the Jowai Resort, Pokitaru, to reach the sewers, and on Drek's fleet to reach other ships.

Going Commando

Teleporters return in Going Commando, having an identical role and appearance to the original title. Another teleporter type appears, the translocator, only in Megapolis, Endako. This is a large, yellow pad which transports the user to different parts of the city, though a translocator does not necessarily have to exist on the other side.

One teleporter in the Silver City, Boldan, is used to take the player to the Insomniac Museum. A large fountain has a teleporter on top that activates only at 3am for one minute, and transports to the Museum when used. This takes Ratchet and Clank to a large room full of enemies, with another teleporter inside to travel to the Museum. Alternatively, it is possible to take advantage of a bug to use the grind rail in "Ride the power lines" to deliberately get hit, and use the Heli-Pack or Thruster-Pack to glide towards the room, and glitch inside using the floor nearby, which is not solid.

Up Your Arsenal

Teleporters have an identical role in Up Your Arsenal to the previous games, though they have an entirely new appearance. These teleporters are green, and create particles that vanish Ratchet upon activating, and are normally used to return to the ship.

Another teleporter appears taking the player to the Insomniac Museum, this time in Metropolis, Kerwan. This can be used when the console's clock is between 3am and 4am. Within the Starship Phoenix, a teleporter in the trophy room takes the player to the museum which can be accessed upon obtaining all trophies. These teleporters have a similar appearance to previous titles, aside from lacking the three claws. The same teleporters appear within the museum itself to different areas.

Deadlocked

In Deadlocked, Ratchet used a teleporter to return to his prison ship. That aside, teleporters have minimal use.

Going Mobile

Teleporters are used frequently, in Going Mobile to change areas in the virtual world.

Size Matters

Teleporters appear infrequently in Size Matters.

Future series

Teleporters in Tools of Destruction, Quest for Booty, and A Crack in Time have a larger appearance, being round, grey pads. They also do not have any moving parts. These teleporters are often used to return to the ship after traveling a long distance.

Full Frontal Assault

Ratchet used the teleporters to return to the Starship Phoenix II.

Into the Nexus

Teleporters appear infrequently in the game> At one point, Neftin Prog ushered Ratchet and Clank to a teleporter on Silox to return them to their ship, saving them as it was his only hope of saving his sister, Vendra Prog, after Mr. Eye threw her away in the Netherverse.

Ratchet & Clank re-imagined

Teleporters feature at the end of both Ratchet & Clank (2016 game) and the movie in a cutscene on board the Deplanetizer. Unable to get off the station before it crashes, Ratchet, Clank, and Captain Qwark aim to use a teleporter on the main bridge. Qwark however falls to the glass nearby, apparently unable to get out. Ratchet and Clank pull the teleporter from the ground, allowing them to use it to return to the Starship Phoenix.

In the game, teleporters have a similar use to those in the original game, but have the larger appearance of those in Tools of Destruction. Notably, the teleporter on Pokitaru is moved, and instead only available from inside a pumping station structure.

A teleporter in Grim's garage in the Kyzil Plateau, Veldin, takes the player to the Insomniac Museum in challenge mode.
