The Taunter is a weapon manufactured by Gadgetron featured in Ratchet & Clank. When triggered, it makes comedic noises which draw enemies toward Ratchet and break nearby crates. The weapon has no restrictions on ammunition and can be fired continuously. The Taunter can be purchased from the Blarg Tactical Research Station and onwards for 2,500 bolts, or 1,500 with the Persuader. The Taunter does not have a gold upgrade.
In addition to its use as a weapon, the Taunter's model is used for Captain Qwark's megaphone when speaking to the player at the beginning of Umbris.
The Taunter is required for the skill point "Hey, Over Here!", which requires firing the weapon on Orxon to lure a toxic crab into a forcefield.
Characteristics[]
The Taunter appears as a large megaphone, which performs exaggerated movements when fired. It is mostly a dark silver in appearance, with a red center and tubes attached to it. Noises made by the Taunter are cartoon-like noises such as burps, whistles, car horns, and barks. It is the most niche weapon in the game, and its use is very situational. However, as it lacks ammunition, there is no drawback to its use. The Taunter's main use is to pull enemies into traps such as electric walls. Additionally, the Taunter can be used in conjunction with the Mine Glove in order to lure enemies into mines.
The sound waves produced by the Taunter are loud enough to break crates. For this reason, the Taunter is an excellent gadget for breaking a lot of crates efficiently.
Behind the scenes[]
In the beta version of the game, the Taunter would say four different lines in different pitched voices instead of the collection of sound effects it uses in the final game.[1] These were:
- "Get over here!"
- "Hail to the king, baby"
- "Oh, a wise guy."
- "You know your shoe lace is untied."
The Taunter featured in the Insomniac Museum in the 2016 re-imagined Ratchet & Clank.
The Taunter also featured in Ratchet & Clank: Life of Pie as one of the weapons Qwark shows to Ratchet and Clank.
