Tachyon gunships[1] are enemies in Tools of Destruction. They are floating hoverships in the Imperial Army piloted by drophyds, named for Emperor Tachyon. Gunships are used both in invasions and defense purposes, and can either come equipped with twin laser beams, or explosive grenades.
Ratchet and Clank first encountered gunships in "Escape on the Mag Rail" in their invasion of Metropolis, Kerwan, when gunships chased Ratchet and destroyed sections of the grindrails he was using. They were later encountered in "Escape Tachyon's Forces" in Stratus City, Kortog, as Ratchet fought and destroyed several. Gunships later appeared in Rykan V, Reepor, and during the invasion of Fastoon.
Characteristics[]
As with other drophyd vehicles in the Imperial Army, the Tachyon gunship is more another robotic suit operated by the drophyd pilot. They possess two arms that the weapons are attached to, and use a large rotor at the bottom for propulsion. The shape of the gunship somewhat resembles a dome with a large protrusion on the upper back of the vehicle that consists of a pylon with a cylinder. There are also two antennas on the top of the dome that arc electricity between eachother. The "bowl" containing the drophyd pilot is on the front of the dome.
Combat[]
Tachyon gunships are not very durable enemies, making up for the lack of thick armor with long-range attacks and hovering a medium distance away from Ratchet. As such, the Combuster and Fusion Grenade are effective against them early on, and later, and the Predator Launcher, Nano-Swarmers, and Negotiator are recommended for later engagements.
