Ratchet & Clank Wiki

Static midges are enemies in Secret Agent Clank. They are small red and silver robots from Metalis. The midges have sirens built into their faces which they use to alert and summon allies if they spot Clank. They are also equipped with a right-armed claw for combat purposes, which is hooked directly into their power core to allow for firing bursts of electricity.

Their most deadly method of attack is surrounding themselves with electricity and rushing their target with a speed boost gained from their oversized feet. The midges possess a weak point that could be attacked for massive damage, and wish their second arm was also a claw.[1]

History[]

Clank encountered them under the employ of the Kingpin during his missions, first hacking the foundry and vault systems of Fort Sprocket during "Hard Currency" and subsequent missions, and then again guarding the spaceship graveyard during "Tracking the Kingpin". The gadgebot mk.IIs also encountered them during the Fort Sprocket gadgebot challenges, where the first appeared aiding A-EYE during "Payback's a Punch". They appeared again for the final time in the "Locked Door" mission.

Combat[]

The midges' primary strength is their numbers, with which they attempt to overwhelm their opponents, especially when one of them suddenly speeds up and rushes you. Due to this the Tie-A-Rang and Cufflink Bomb are good at handling groups, while the Holo-Knuckles and Blowtorch Briefcase are enough for handling small numbers. The Tanglevine Carnation is also useful in thinning out large groups.

When fought as gadgebots they presented much less of a threat, never utilizing their speed boost attack. When destroyed by a gadgebot they would sometimes drop a static midge helmet which the gadgebot could use to access sealed-off areas.
