Ratchet & Clank Wiki

Spider divers are enemies in Secret Agent Clank. The robots are upgraded spider-bots equipped with a plasma based firearm on one arm, and two prison shivs on the other.[1]

Ratchet encountered spider diver inmates, as well as their mega variety, as enemies during his time on the Prison Planet. Outside of prison three spider divers working for Klunk are encountered by Clank on Hydrano in the underwater base during "Clank under glass".

Characteristics[]

Being upgraded versions of the Megacorp Security Robots from Going Commando[1], the spider divers bear a close resemblance to their predecessors, especially the Chainsaw Model, with the standard version being the same coloration as them in both versions, and the mega variant sharing the colors of the v2.0 version in the PS2 port. In the PSP version, the mega spider-bot had a similar coloration as the Flamethrower Model.

Combat[]

Both types of spider divers fired bolts of plasma at intruders, and could use their prison shivs to stab at close range. The mega variant also utilized a large laser blast that it fired from one side to another. Although their ranged attacks were strong and accurate, the real threat was the mega variant being too strong to take down quickly. Slowing them down with the Shard Gun and using strong weapons like the Mine Launcher and Shock Rocket is recommended.

The three divers on Hydrano hung from the ceiling, meaning they could only be defeated with ranged weaponry. Due to their stationary position they were an easy target however.

Behind the Scenes[]

When observed using the Holo-Monocle, the spider diver recon says "Spider-Bot, Spider-Bot, does whatever a spider ought," a reference to the Marvel comic superhero Spider-Man. In addition, one spider diver is named Peter Parquagh, presumably after Peter Parker, Spider-Man's true identity.
