The space pirates of Rivet's dimension are the counterpart organization to the space pirates of Ratchet's dimension. They are extremely similar, sharing many of the same designs of ships, models of robot pirate and general aesthetic with both being Decadroid robots operating in the Polaris Galaxy, seeking to plunder and loot any and all valuables they can find.

They appear in Rift Apart as an enemy faction and later as temporary allies. Throughout Rift Apart, the pirates will be upgraded with stronger armor and weapons, allowing them to take more damage and deal more themselves.

Origins[]

The origins of the Space Pirates in Rivet's alternate dimension isn't known, but bearing in mind their considerable alikeness with their counterparts, it's possible they share a similar genesis. The Pirates of Ratchet's dimension were stated by the IRIS Supercomputer to have been created by Percival Tachyon when he was just a child for the sole purpose of gathering valuable raritanium resources to build his imperial army and empire. Upon completing their goal, Tachyon abandoned them and they were left to wander the galaxy to pillage by their own volition. If the two share a similar origin, it's possible a dimensional counterpart to Tachyon would have had parallel goals. However with the existence of the ruling Nefarious Empire, his ambitions would have eventually become a threat and he very likely was destroyed or neutralized in some form by Emperor Nefarious. Regardless, the pirates have continued to be a thorn in the Emperor's side for many years, plundering his ships and looting his bases.

Key members[]

Captain Quantum[]

Captain Quantum

Nothing is known about any previous captains but the current one for many years now has been Quantum, a dimensional counterpart of Captain Qwark and a former member of the Resistance. He grew unsatisfied in his life with them however and wanted to experience the liberating, adventurous pirate lifestyle as well as being able to fight the Empire, although he is not a robot and had to disguise himself as one to join their ranks.

Early in his time with the pirates, Quantum had luckily managed to plant a spy bug on the Emperor's Assistant, which allowed him to see and hear everything she does via a holoscreen projected from a device resembling a bucket, which he wears on his head as part of his robot disguise. This feed of information and access to the Emperor's private plans allowed Quantum to provide invaluable tactical assistance to the pirates and remain one step ahead of the Emperor's efforts to destroy them. With this advantage, Quantum was able to quickly rise through their ranks and become captain himself, earning the pirate's adoration and allowing them to flourish under his leadership.

Pierre Le Fer[]

Pierre Le Fer

Captain Quantum's first mate is Pierre Le Fer, a dimensional counterpart to Rusty Pete and mouthpiece of the pirates with a French accent. As Quantum's first mate, Pierre is one of the few pirates that knows him personally and where to find him in his seclusion. He looks almost identical to Pete but with an eye patch, pirate hat, and different color scheme. Pierre fancies himself a charming, debonair swashbuckler, however he is exceptionally vain and cowardly, making excuses to stay out of fights and sending his more formidable crewmates to battle in his stead. He doesn't seem to be particularly liked by the other Space Pirates as it seems they have attempted to have him executed multiple times.

He is also a longtime friend and more oftentimes rival of Rivet, the Lombax Resistance fighter. They have a troubled history and complicated one-sided relationship, with Pierre acting as a supplier of equipment and useful parts for the Resistance through her but also an adversary in battles with the Space Pirates. He is self-proclaimed "more lover than fighter" and often attempts to flirt with Rivet, much to her annoyance. Pierre gleefully stirs up trouble around the galaxy in the name of piracy with his goal being to steal hearts and practically everything else that he can.

MoyDoy[]

A former member of the resistance like Quantum, MoyDoy went on to join the pirates.[1]

When the Emperor appears at Zurkie's after Rivet's battle with his counterpart Dr. Nefarious, he boasts that he is almost finished neutralizing all his enemies with the exceptions of Captain Quantum and Rivet. Whilst leaving Zurkie's, Rivet laments that the Emperor had gotten to the others named on the list, Kit attempts to console her by saying that it's not her fault they were captured. With Phantom having given himself up to be imprisoned, the Emperor personally neutralized MoyDoy and Clatchky, prior to him acquiring the Dimensionator. Although Kit says they were captured, when Rivet makes a jail break at Zordoom to free her friends later, amongst them being Phantom and Quantum; MoyDoy and Clatchky are never seen here nor mentioned again, leading to the ambiguous conclusion that they may have been killed in captivity.

Home Base[]

Ratchet Clank Rift Apart Ardolis

The remains of planet Ardolis; the home base of the Space Pirates

The not-so-secret home base of the Space Pirates is on planet Ardolis, a bastion for robots who wish to live a life of adventure, freedom, and morally-ambiguous deeds. The planet itself is curiously, mostly destroyed in Rivet's dimension with no explanation given and the wrecks of several pirate ships in it's orbit. It seems likely the destruction done to the planet was caused by Emperor Nefarious, as he and his Empire have unsuccessfully been attempting to destroy the pirates for years.

The lifestyle of the pirates has proved to be financially consuming, so to bring in more revenue streams they have entered into branding and target markets by creating a theme park located at Ardolis' Skull Mountain, in which entrants can be a pirate for a day by entering and completing the pirate trials. The park has however been met with very mixed levels of success, but enough to allow the Pirates to continue their era of prosperity under their mysterious captain.

Behavior and characteristics[]

They have a more teal color scheme, rather than orange like their counterparts and a higher number of females among their crew. The pirates also seem to be prejudiced against organic lifeforms, allowing only robots to join their ranks and also calling Ratchet and Rivet "squishies" during combat. There seems to be a mix of French and English dialect accented pirates amongst the crew, with some having particularly french names, like Pierre and François. Like their counterparts in Ratchet's dimension, the Space Pirates love drinking grog, singing and dancing, so much so they constructed a large pub/disco called the Blackstar Landing at their home base on Ardolis and are regular visitors to Zurkie's Gastropub and Battleplex.

A crashed Pirate ship can be found on Savali, booby trapped with explosives and Cutlassies, Kit informs Ratchet here that the pirates frequent this sector. They also frequently raid Torren IV for any scrap valuables they can find that have been collected by the Vullards and sometimes even sell it back to them without them knowing it's theirs at neutral trading points like Zurkie's refuelling depot. They use scrap that they raid from across the galaxy to build their swarmer unit; the Cutlassies. Though sharing an enemy in Emperor Nefarious and on odd occasions making deals together, the Space Pirates have traded blows with the Resistance on several instances as they do not discriminate who they steal from.

Types of Space Pirate[]
