Luna: I will contact you when the delivery is completed. Luna out.

Clank: I have the coordinates.

Skyboarder Returns

Skyboarder: Okay, okay, okay, here's the deal. I've got these two identical skyboards for us to use, right? We'll race one more time to prove who's the best.

Clank: Is that a Polarizer attached to your dark matter acceleration module?

Skyboarder: Well, so it is! Man, I never really noticed it before. So what do ya think, runt? Wanna give it another go? I'll give you the Polarizer if you beat me.

Polariser

Skyboarder: This stupid piece of junk never worked right anyway.

Clank: It makes magnets change polarity so that they either push or pull when you-.. never mind. Thank you, sir.

Challax

Tiny Car

Ratchet: This doesn't look too hospitable. Maybe they put in false coordinates to throw us off the trail.

Clank: Wait! Do not throw that!

Ratchet: Whoa, look at this! It's a hovercar. Good eyes, pal. I was about to toss our only hope halfway across the planet.

On-screen: You have found the Hyperborean Helmet!

(Upon finding the Electroshock Helmet.)
On-screen: You have found the Electroshock Helmet!

She's A Robot

Ratchet: There she is. Let's get her!

Clank: Ratchet? Do you notice anything unusual about Luna?

Ratchet: Well, she does seem to have an unusually large door in the back of her head.

Clank: And why do you suppose that is?

Ratchet: She's um, ah, a robot?

Clank: Correct! I believe the Technomites set us up from the beginning. What I do not know is why.

Ratchet: Yeah? Well I bet those Technomites inside her head know why and now I'm gonna find out.

Clank: It appears we will have to catch her, first.

(On PSP.)
Qwark: Great news, fellas! I found my father! It turns out he is the leader of the-..

Ratchet: Not now, Qwark! We've got important business to take care of.

Qwark: But this is important, too! I just wanted to tell you that-..

Dayni Moon

Catch Luna (gameplay)

(Upon finding the Mega-Bomb Helmet.)
On-screen: You have found the Mega-Bomb Helmet!

Plot Thickens

Luna: So, the courageous superheroes finally catch the little girl.

Clank: We know what you are, Luna.

Ratchet: What we don't know is why.

Luna: We knew you'd fall for it, Ratchet. You can't resist playing the hero. We just needed to get you to our lab so we could extract your DNA and this was the easiest way to do it.

Clank: But why do you need his DNA?

Luna: We Technomites are tired of being taken advantage of. Everyone uses our technology but no one gives us credit. Our robots are strong but as you have demonstrated, they are no match for Ratchet. So, we are making our own Ratchets!

Ratchet: What?!

Luna: Using our advanced cloning technology, Emperor Otto has begun creating an entire army of Ratchets. His clone factory is churning them out as we speak. You are already too late to stop him.

Tiny invasion

Clank: The construction of this robot is more advanced than anything I have seen.

Ratchet: Advanced or not, she took the factory coordinates with her when we.. um, well, disabled her.

Clank: I believe I may be able to interface with her to retrieve those coordinates.

Ratchet: I don't know, Clank. Something this advanced must have security programs to keep you from doing that.

Clank: I am sure I will have no trouble avoiding whatever security she has installed. Here we go. Past the cerebral shield, avoid the mainframe intake security protocol, and bingo!

Ratchet: You got it?!

Clank: Yes, the coordinates are-..

Ratchet: Clank!! Oh, no! Now what? I got it. Here I come Clank, hang on!

Enter Clank

Clank's security backup: Freeze! Hands in the air! Now turn around very slowly.

Ratchet: Who are you?!

Clank's security backup: I'm Clank's security back-up. I come online whenever his power is out to protect his circuitry. Hey, you're Ratchet aren't ya?

Ratchet: Uh, yeah?

Clank's security backup: Whew! Well, I thought you were another one of those soldiers that came marching through here. I think they're trying to get into the memory bank.

Ratchet: Well, I'm here to get rid of them and figure out how to wake Clank.

Clank's security backup: Well, if you can get all the soldiers out of here I'll throw the auxiliary switch to turn Clank back on. I can't do it until all of the soldiers are gone, though.

Defeat all Technomites (gameplay)

(Upon finding the Chameleon Helmet in the second playthrough of challenge mode.)
On-screen: You have found the Chameleon Helmet!

(Upon defeating all of the enemies in the room with Clank's heart.)
HelpDesk (on-screen): Pick up pieces of the heart with the Polarizer to repair Clank's heart!

HelpDesk: Pick up pieces of the heart with the Polarizer to repair Clank's heart.

Anti-Virus

Clank's security backup: Great work! Now stand back son.

Clank's security backup: You better get out of here before the automatic virus detection program comes online and hunts you down. I'd, uh, head for the mouth if I was you.

Escape from Clank (gameplay)

(Upon finding the Mega-Bomb Body Armor.)
On-screen: You have found the Mega-Bomb Body Armor!

Clank Restored

Clank: What happened?

Ratchet: You got short circuited when you interfaced with Luna.

Clank: Hmm. She must have had a level nine access protocol installed which activates retroactively when I-..

Ratchet: Oh, of course she did. Right before you conked out you said you found the clone factory coordinates.

Clank: Accessing. Yes, I do have them. I cannot believe I was stupid enough to make such a simple mistake.

Ratchet: It happens to the best of us, pal. The important thing is you got the coordinates.

Clank: I suppose you are right. We should get going.

Clank challenges (gameplay)

Quodrona

Find Otto

Ratchet: Ugh! I don't believe it, another dead end! You lose a contact or something?

Clank: Just as I suspected.

Ratchet: Of course! The factory is shrunk. Well, let's stomp around until we squish it, huh? (grunts)

Clank: I do not think it will be that easy to find.

Ratchet: Fine. This little Emperor Otto should be a piece of cake anyway. Let's get shrinking.

Monologueing

Otto Destruct: Ratchet, how very nice to see you. Although I'm sure you seen enough of yourself already. (laughs)

Clank: Otto, I am sorry that no one gives you credit for your work, but there are other ways to earn respect.

Otto Destruct: (laughs) You actually bought that cheesy story? This isn't about credit for our work or respect or whatever nonsense you have come to believe. This is about power. And what is more powerful than intelligence?

Ratchet: The RYNO?

Otto Destruct: Nothing is stronger than the power of the mind. Do you see this area behind me? That is what this has all been leading up to. I have developed the technology to transfer the intelligence from the being in one chamber to the being in the other.

Clank: What?!

Otto Destruct: After I have grown these clones to full size, I am going to use my Ratchet army to gather every intelligent being in the solar system. Then I will transfer all of their brain power to me to become the most intelligent entity the universe has ever known!

Clank: That is pure evil!

Otto Destruct: (laughs)

Ratchet: Yeah, well none of this will happen until you get by us!

Otto Destruct: Easier done than said.

Not Half As Good

Ratchet: Looks like Otto overlooked one thing. I'm not half as good without you.

Clank: True.

Qwark: Papa? Is that you?

Otto Destruct: Yes it's me, you idiot. I mean, son. Now be a good boy and get those two out of here.

Qwark: Papa, why did you make Qwark so tiny?

Otto Destruct: I've got a job to do, son, and it's time I take care of your little playmates!

Growing Up

Otto Destruct: Ooh, nice shooting. Very clever, too. (laughs) Now, where were we?

Otto Destruct: This is getting better all the time!

Defeat Otto Destruct (gameplay)

(Upon picking up rockets while playing as Giant Clank, where the X represents the amount of rockets received.)
On-screen: XX Rockets

Shrink Back

Qwark: Papa, can I have a piggy back ride?

Qwark: You should be more careful! You almost hit me with that!

Make the Switch

Skrunch: (monkey noises)

Ratchet: What is it, pal?

Skrunch: (monkey noises)

Clank: These are Qwark's real parents. Skrunch says they were killed by defective equipment created by the Technomites.

Ratchet: Oh, that really bites. Should we tell Qwark?

Clank: I think he already knows.

Qwark: So now, because of him, I'll never know my real parents.

Clank: I recognize your parents from the photo. They were great superheroes in their day. You should be very proud.

Ratchet: Somehow, I don't think pride is what he's after.

Qwark: How could you do something so evil? You knew the truth and you used it against me to get what you wanted! Now I'm going to get what I want.

Otto Destruct: (coughs) What are you doing? You don't know how it works!

Qwark: You think I'm an idiot, do you? Well, how about having this brain instead of yours? You want intelligence? You're about to get...uh, the opposite of that.

Ratchet: I don't think that's such a good idea, Qwark. Why don't you climb out of there and let's see if we can calm you down a bit, hm?

Clank: Yes, Qwark. You should consider what you are about to do. Otto is right, you do not know that effect of this machine.

Qwark: At this point, I don't care!

Otto Destruct: (monkey noises)

Ratchet: Oh, no. Now what are we going to do with him?

Clank: It appears that Skrunch just added another family member.

Ratchet: Great! Can we get out of here, now? I've got another massage scheduled on Pokitaru in an hour.

Clank: You got it!

Ending

Announcer: So get your Battle Ratchet today! It's the most realistic fighting toy ever created. Warning: Battle Ratchet is a living creature that may behave unpredictably. Do not keep Battle Ratchet in original package unless sufficient air holes are provided.

Ratchet: Well, I'm glad they found a use for those things.

Clank: Yes and they seem to do a good job of keeping Qwark company. (chuckles)

Qwark: So, there I was, face to tentacle with the Squid Beast of Oceania 8. I pulled out my trusty electro gun, but the salt water had shorted it out. Hey, I was just getting to the good part!

Ratchet: He may be small but his ego's still big, huh? (laughs)

(After the cutscene plays.)
On-screen: Congratulations! You have won the game! Do you wish to replay the game in Challenge Mode (with all your weapons, armor, bolts, and skill points) or time warp back to before you confronted Otto Destruct?

Treehouse

(Upon reading the info message near the Ratchet statue.)
On-screen: The birdadactyl was one of the early moving "objects" in the game (called mobys by us), also made for the first playable. Since he (she?) was a prototype, he's pretty expensive to process. If we put him in the regular levels of the game the framerate would drop. Poor buddy is a bit overweight!

(Upon reading the info message near the Dreamtime concept art.)
On-screen: Although designers make the layout of levels, the look and colors of the levels are decided by art. Concept art plays a huge role in helping visualize these decisions.

(Upon reading the info message near the large bulldozer.)
On-screen: This is a giant bulldozer that was generated for our first-playable (a demo level that proves the game engine and idea work). He chased you down a city street and smashed through buildings as he went along.

(Upon reading the info message near the computer on the second floor.)
On-screen: There are a lot of R&C fans in Japan, and a major comic (Korokoro comic) held a fan art contest for Ratchet skins. Here are some of the top entries. All the drawings are from younger, pre-teen contestants.

(Upon reading the info message near the CUT.)
On-screen: The miniturret was coded in basic form and working in the game, but ultimately we realized it would be very similar to the Bee Mine Glove. Although we all wanted to include the venerable MiniTurret, the Bee Mine was already created and working well, so the MiniTurret got de-prioritized.

(Upon reading the info message near the outside computer.)
On-screen: We had a ton of ideas for multiplayer skins, but only so many can be displayed in the game at once, so we had to pick and choose carefully. Here, you can see a lot of ideas for skins that didn't make the cut, as well as sketches for the ones already in the game.

(Upon reading the info message near the Pokitaru concept art.)
On-screen: Initially several versions of a new enemy are drawn, and art and design work together selecting traits they like from each drawing. Eventually a final concept sketch is refined from all the previous suggestions, and then sent to an artist to be modeled.

(Upon reading the info message near the large Ratchet clone.)
On-screen: Originally, there were to be 3 new "elite" clones in the arena before Otto chases you. As it turned out, though, all three types had rather short range weapons. So instead we included the Lacerator clone as the third variety - he was satisfyingly challenging, so this giant hand clone never got past the art stage.

(Upon reading the info message near the computer on the third floor.)
On-screen: The design of the Technomite race had a lot of different inputs before the current ones you see in-game were chosen. These sketches directly affected how Otto would end up looking.

(Upon reading the info message near the computer Clank vehicle concept art.)
On-screen: Concept sketches of some vehicles, not all of which were ultimately made.
