Sharkigatorsrc16, also referred to as sewer sharks or pool sharksrc16 are enemies in Ratchet & Clank, the 2016 re-imagined game, Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal, and Size Matters. They are hostile fish-like creatures that swim in the waters and will swallow Ratchet and Clank if they stray too close to them.
Pool Sharks (also called Sharkigators or Sewer Sharks, depending on the location) were biting, amphibious beings that lived in several watery areas.

History
Ratchet & Clank
There were two different color variant of the sharks.

  +
Sharkigators first appeared in Blackwater City, Rilgar, in the waters surrounding the ship. If Ratchet and Clank dived into the waters, a sharkigator would eat them. When exploring Blackwater City's sewers during "Locate Captain Qwark", the two were often required to clear several pools of sharkigators, by using the Hydrodisplacer to drain the water and then jumping in to kill them before refilling it to swim through safely. Sharkigators had a similar role in Qwark's headquarters, Umbris, during "Survive Qwark's gauntlet".

  +
Re-imagined
In the first game, the original dark green color variant was present both in the pools on Umbris and in the oceans on Rilgar. Later in Going Commando, the sharks in the factory on Notak had also the original green color.

In Qwark's version of events, sharkigators were first seen in Aleero City, Kerwan, transported by a grav-train headed to the Hall of Heroes in "Ride the train to the Hall of Heroes", though they posed no threat. They were later encountered in Blackwater City on Rilgar, where they patrolled the waters, and Ratchet had to defeat several sharkigators during "Search the sewers" to defeat the sharkigators. Later, sharkigators were encountered in Jowai Resort, Pokitaru, where they would eat Ratchet if he swam too far away from the resort.

Going Commando
In Going Commando, on Notak, the sharks swimming in the ocean had an orange color. Then, from Up Your Arsenal onwards they were always orange.

  +
Sharkigators appeared in Canal City, Notak patrolling the water. Ratchet was unable to defeat them, though inside the factory, he had to use the Thermanator to freeze water and prevent them from eating him. Sharkigators also patrolled the waters on Dobbo and Todano.

Up Your Arsenal
In Size Matters, the orange sharks that lived on Pokitaru had human-like green pupiled eyes, instead of their glowing yellow eyes in the other games. They also moved differently in Size Matters rather than just moving upwards, turning 180 degrees, and plunging downwards.

  +
Sharkigators were found in the waters of the Nabla Forest, Florana, as well as the research facility, Daxx, and the Nefarious BFG, Koros.

Size Matters
Also, in Size Matters, in the beginning part of Dreamtime, the shark's fins could be seen in the water as well as a much larger moving unknown navy blue/purple polygon shape, presumably a larger variant of the shark.

As an environmental threat
  +
Sharkigators could be found swimming behind the glass walls of the Prison Showers.
Non-attackable sharks were found throughout both the Solana Galaxy and the Bogon Galaxy and were the creatures that ate anyone who decided to swim too far from land. They could be found lurking in the water on any level that did not require the player to swim, making the sharks act as a deterrent for players straying too far from anywhere else in the level besides the set path. On most levels, players could assess whether or not the water was safe; If the water was transparent, Ratchet could swim without being harmed. If he fell in murky water, he would get eaten almost instantly and would be reset to the last Checkpoint. As a prewarning, fins could be seen in the water; however, Planets Daxx and Florana in Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal lacked them. After falling in the water, Players were given around five seconds before one of the creatures attacked.

Characteristics
In Size Matters, the sharks also appeared in the Multiplayer map called Island Escape. If a player jumped into the water, they would get eaten by a shark, followed by a message "No swimming allowed."

Appearance
  +
Sharkigators are short sharks with sharp teeth and yellow eyes. They come in two variants: the sharkigators on Umbris, Rilgar, and in the factory on Notak have a green color, while the sharks in the ocean on Notak, Dobbo, Todano, and Daxx have an orange color. On Pokitaru in Size Matters, the orange sharks have green pupiled eyes rather than glowing yellow eyes.

As an enemy
+
Behavior
  +
Sharkigators inhabit either oceans or pools of water, and eat Ratchet if he swims too far from land. When sharkigators are found lurking in the water on a planet, signified by their visible fin, this means the water should be avoided. Sharkigators eat Ratchet within moments after he ends up in the water, giving him a very brief amount of time to exit.
Pool Sharks were encountered as fightable enemies on the outskirts of the end of the level on Umbris that ate Ratchet only if he was in water. These were the only living enemies in the level besides the Blargian Snagglebeast. A few swings of the wrench, or one Hyper-strike, could defeat them with ease. This was the only time that the Pool Sharks could be attacked.

  +
In Ratchet & Clank, when found in pools of water, if the water is drained with the Hydrodisplacer, they will then flop around on ground, and can easily be defeated with an OmniWrench. In Going Commando, in a pool of water, the Thermanator should be used to freeze the water and prevent them from killing Ratchet.

**In the Ratchet & Clank Demo, the Pool sharks also didn't open their mouths either, in fact they used exactly the same animation, but in the official release, they did. This means that the "Chomping" animation was eventually scrapped in later games in favour of a simple "Swallow whole" animation.

Sharkigators[1], also referred to as sewer sharks[2] or pool sharks[3] are enemies in Ratchet & Clank, the 2016 re-imagined game, Going Commando, Up Your Arsenal, and Size Matters. They are hostile fish-like creatures that swim in the waters and will swallow Ratchet and Clank if they stray too close to them.

History

Ratchet & Clank

Sharkigators first appeared in Blackwater City, Rilgar, in the waters surrounding the ship. If Ratchet and Clank dived into the waters, a sharkigator would eat them. When exploring Blackwater City's sewers during "Locate Captain Qwark", the two were often required to clear several pools of sharkigators, by using the Hydrodisplacer to drain the water and then jumping in to kill them before refilling it to swim through safely. Sharkigators had a similar role in Qwark's headquarters, Umbris, during "Survive Qwark's gauntlet".

Re-imagined

The 2016 re-imagined game is primarily an unreliable retelling of events by Qwark.
The re-imagined game primarily describes Captain Qwark's account of events. As Qwark is an unreliable narrator, and contradictory events are in-universe fiction (though those which correspond still apply). Please see Project:Bulletin board/Canon for the wiki's coverage of canon.

Sharkigators appeared in Canal City, Notak patrolling the water. Ratchet was unable to defeat them, though inside the factory, he had to use the Thermanator to freeze water and prevent them from eating him. Sharkigators also patrolled the waters on Dobbo and Todano.

Up Your Arsenal

Sharkigators were found in the waters of the Nabla Forest, Florana, as well as the research facility, Daxx, and the Nefarious BFG, Koros.

Size Matters

Sharkigators were located in Jowai Resort, Pokitaru, and would eat Ratchet if he entered the waters. They were later seen during Ratchet's Dreamtime sequence.

Secret Agent Clank

Secret Agent Clank is in-universe fiction.
Secret Agent Clank is an in-universe holofilm in the Secret Agent Clank fictional series. Its events are a fictional movie within the Ratchet & Clank universe. Please see Project:Bulletin board/Canon for the wiki's coverage of canon.

Sharkigators could be found swimming behind the glass walls of the Prison Showers.

Characteristics

Appearance

Sharkigators are short sharks with sharp teeth and yellow eyes. They come in two variants: the sharkigators on Umbris, Rilgar, and in the factory on Notak have a green color, while the sharks in the ocean on Notak, Dobbo, Todano, and Daxx have an orange color. On Pokitaru in Size Matters, the orange sharks have green pupiled eyes rather than glowing yellow eyes.

Behavior

Sharkigators inhabit either oceans or pools of water, and eat Ratchet if he swims too far from land. When sharkigators are found lurking in the water on a planet, signified by their visible fin, this means the water should be avoided. Sharkigators eat Ratchet within moments after he ends up in the water, giving him a very brief amount of time to exit.

In the re-imagined release of Ratchet & Clank, sharkigators appear in the outskirts of Jowai Resort on Pokitaru, and will bite Ratchet if he swims too far out from land.

Behind the scenes

Sharkigator from R&C (2016) concept art

Concept art from the re-imagined game.

Sharkigators bear many similarities in appearance and behavior with the lurker shark from Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, as both sharks patrol the waters as a way to keep the player from hitting level borders.

Insomniac wanted to remove the sharkigator (by designing challenges in which it was not needed) in every Ratchet & Clank game, but failed, as they never found a better way to kill Ratchet if he enters water that the player should not access.[4]

Sharkigators also appear in the Size Matters multiplayer map Island Escape. If a player jumps into the water, they will get eaten by a shark, followed by a message "No swimming allowed."
