The Seekerpede is a vehicle in Rift Apart. It is a bio-synthetic search-and-destroy craft in service of the Nefarious Empire. Seekerpedes can be seen patrolling the skies of Nefarious City, hunting for unlicensed aircraft or scanning remote worlds for signs of secret rebel bases.

A Seekerpede known as Scolo is fought at Zurkie's Battleplex.

History[]

Rift Apart[]

When Rivet steals an Infobot from the Emperor's Assistant whilst on a mission for the Resistance in Nefarious City, a Seekerpede is seen providing air support and assisting the Nefarious Troopers search the city streets for the perpetrator. After the Dimensionator begins malfunctioning and rifts open in every direction, a Seekerpede flies out of a rift in Megalopolis, while Ratchet and Clank are pursuing Dr. Nefarious. In Nefarious City, several Seekerpedes can be seen flying high above traffic in the sky, with one shooting down an unlicensed vehicle during Ratchet and Ms. Zurkon's conversation about the strict rules on ships leaving the planet. While he is here, Ratchet provides cover for Phantom so he can hack a propaganda blimp for the Resistance, after which he is done, a Seekerpede patrolling the skies flies past and destroys it with its laser.

Seekerpede Rivet Rift Apart

The Seekerpede breaks into Rivet's hideout to retrieve the stolen infobot.

A Seekerpede is deployed to Sargasso to search the planet for rebel activity and information pertaining to the missing Infobot to retrieve it, while Rivet is returning the Seekerpede clips her ship and causes her to crash land. Once she activates the infobot within her base, the Seekerpede tracks it's signal and breaks inside, however it mistakenly abducts Clank and Rivet pursues it to rescue him. After chasing the Seekerpede on a Speetle and ramming it's flight stabilizer to disable it, Rivet engages it in battle. When it's health is brought down to 50%, it's backup power then restores the flight stabilizer forcing Rivet to chase it again via Speetle and ground it again like before. After fighting it again, she finally destroys the Nefarious Trooper pilot, saves Clank and leaves the Seekerpede heavily damaged.

Morts Seekerpede Rift Apart

The Morts pilot the repaired Seekerpede to defend Sargasso from the Emperor's invasion.

It is fixed up again later by the Morts and used to assist against Emperor Nefarious when he comes to the planet to destroy it with his armies. It is eventually shot down by the Emperor's forces whilst Rivet is stopping his Nefarious Cruisers from firing their destruct-o beams through the planet's crust and blowing it up.

At Zurkie's, another more powerful Seekerpede named Scolo is fought in two different challenges, the Silver Cup challenge "Revenge of the Seekerpede" and the Gold Cup challenge "Twice as Nice". It is allegedly the biomechanical father of the Seekerpede on Sargasso.

Combat[]

The Seekerpede is a major boss enemy with extreme amounts of health, you'll need to bring your heavy weapons to bear when facing one. Short-range weapons aren't good against the Seekerpede since it's often much too far away to be hit effectible by them. For similar reasons, lobbing weapons like the Shatterbomb aren't very good either, since the Seekerpede keeps its distance far away and moves around a lot, meaning these weapons can miss it incredibly easily.

During the fights with both the Sargasso Seekerpede and Scolo, standard swarmer Nefarious Troopers will spawn to attack Rivet. The Seekerpede uses a horizontal sweeping mandible attack that can also kill the swarmer Troopers, so it can be useful for when you jump over it or phantom dash through it. It also fires a vertical sweeping laser and lobs large cluster bombs that plant into the environment and become hazards that damage you on touch. They will eventually cease functioning or be destroyed by the mandible sweep, but new positioned ones will be launched and replace them. Finally the Seekerpede will fly and switch positions to the other side of the battlefield and drag its tail through the ground behind it, if Rivet is under it, the tail will damage her, so try to stay out of its way when it takes off. Seekerpedes have their flight stabilizers on the back of their "heads", behind the cockpit the Nefarious Trooper pilot resides inside. When it is damaged, the Seekerpede loses its extended flight capabilities, though it can still make short flights to switch sides of the fighting arena.

Behind the scenes[]

Concept art of the Seekerpede battle shows Emperor Nefarious piloting the craft himself rather than the Nefarious Trooper in the final game.
