Ratchet & Clank: Issue 5: Multiple Organisms is the fifth issue of the Ratchet & Clank comic series. It was released on January 19, 2011. Following their crash on Veldin with the Surinox Shard, Ratchet and Clank are separated from Talwyn Apogee.

Plot[]

Vorn informs Artemis Zogg that the geoshift sphere is irreparable, and without the Surinox Shard, it would take 13 years, six months, and two days (depending on traffic) to return to the Artemis Galaxy. Zogg learns Talwyn’s identity as their new prisoner.

On Veldin, Ratchet and Clank fail to contact Sasha Phyronix or Cronk, leading Ratchet to grow increasingly anxious about Talwyn’s fate. Meanwhile, Captain Qwark and Zephyr attempt to replicate Zogg's teleporter with Al’s remote assistance, only to abandon the effort and seek help from terachnoids. Zogg confronts Talwyn, referencing her father, Max Apogee, and his research on the "Lombax Secret" that led to the discovery of the Surinox Shard. His taunts fail to provoke her.

As Ratchet and Clank navigate a dangerous comet field to secure transport, they find Ratchet's garage and recover the Praetorian OmniWrench. They fend off warbots in their path. Meanwhile, Sasha attempts to negotiate Talwyn’s release with Zogg. Zogg, while stranded, uses Talwyn as leverage and reminds Sasha of their shared past beliefs as defense ministers about negotiating with invaders.

Facing overwhelming odds, Clank constructs a GrummelNet Compression Generator, which emits an EMP that disables the warbots but temporarily deactivates Clank for an hour. Despite Ratchet’s protests, Clank activates the device without hesitation.

On Zogg’s ship, Vorn, disillusioned with Zogg’s leadership, aids Talwyn’s escape by providing her with keys. Meanwhile, on Veldin, Ratchet encounters General Glahm, who prepares to fire surface-to-space missiles to destroy Zogg's ship. Despite Ratchet’s warning that Zogg is powerless without the Surinox Shard, Glahm proceeds, resulting in the ship’s destruction. Ratchet believes Talwyn has perished in the explosion.

Onboard the wreckage, Zogg confronts the fleeing Talwyn and Vorn. Vorn uses Ratchet’s confiscated OmniWrench to create a diversion by damaging steam pipes, allowing them to reach an escape pod. Back on Veldin, Ratchet mourns Talwyn, and Clank reactivates, witnessing his friend’s grief.

Behind the Scenes[]

The title Multiple Organisms was one of the original proposed titles for Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One.[citation needed]
