The RYNO 8 is a weapon in Rift Apart. It is the eighth iteration of the R.Y.N.O., and is obtained by collecting all 10 spybots found hidden and awarded throughout locations. The RYNO 8 creates a portal overhead to another dimension, which summons an object from the portal that deals immense damage upon landing. As such, it is well used for destroying vast groups of enemies.
The RYNO 8 upgrades to the RYNO ∞ at level 5. In challenge mode, the Omega RYNO ∞ can be purchased for 1,000,000 bolts.
Obtaining the RYNO 8 unlocks the silver trophy, Aim to Misbehave.
Characteristics[]
The RYNO 8 summons many objects from Rift Apart as well as some from other titles Insomniac Games has developed and a number of PlayStation Studios intellectual properties. Notable objects include:
- The Blargian Snagglebeast as seen in the 2016 Ratchet & Clank reimagining.
- A Jeep, Sully's plane, and the Phurba dagger from Uncharted.
- Jak and Daxter, and a Precursor orb from Jak and Daxter.
- Sly Cooper, Bentley, and the Cooper Van from Sly Cooper.
- A Ravager and Thunderjaw from Horizon.
- Fizzie and barrels of Overcharge from Sunset Overdrive.
- Merryn's submarine from Song of the Deep.
Gameplay[]
Using the RYNO 8 will summon a portal directly over where it was fired, from which a random object will appear and crash below. This object will deal direct damage to anything directly below it, and a great amount of damage to nearby enemies. Though the weapon is relatively unsuited to fighting boss battles, and struggles to reach flying enemies, it is effective against all other types of enemies. The RYNO 8 can be used to effectively clear a room full of enemies, and makes certain battles less difficult. However, it can only be acquired near the end of the game, meaning most of its use outside of the final mission is in challenge mode.
The raritanium upgrades do not fundamentally change the weapon, but provide broad improvements. The most common upgrade, area of effect, is also the most useful upgrade, as this is primarily how it is used. Of its bonus upgrades, Health Drop is the most useful, improving the durability of Ratchet or Rivet in battle.
Once fully upgraded with XP, it becomes the RYNO ∞, which causes shots fired to create multiple portals instead of just one, which tremendously increases the damage it can deal. The weapon is extremely potent, but because it is acquired so late, it is limited primarily to the end of the game and challenge mode, at which point it may be preferable to try new omega weapons. Nonetheless, it is a strong weapon to use to deal with tough situations.
Behind the Scenes[]
The RYNO 8 was revealed during the #RatchetPS5Takeover, it had been taken by Dr. Nefarious to a Nefarious Starship. Ratchet, Clank and Rivet witnessed it pulling things in from different realities via dimensional rifts. After guessing the password for the starship they were able to retrieve it.[1]
