Quick Select is a recurring menu in gameplay in the Ratchet & Clank series. It allows the player to bring up a weapon or gadget quickly without entering the start menu. It is normally accessed by holding down and using the stick to select the desired weapon or gadget from a ring of eight slots, with a brief gameplay pause while doing so. The menu will display the weapon or gadget and, if applicable, display its ammo and experience status.
Appearances[]
Ratchet & Clank (2002)[]
The Quick Select in Ratchet & Clank has a single ring which holds up to eight weapons and/or gadgets as Ratchet. Unlike later titles, the game does not pause while Quick Select is in use, meaning the player is vulnerable while selecting a weapon. As with the pause menu, weapon icons have a blue background, gold weapon icons have a gold background, while gadget icons have a green background. The Quick Select can be customized from the pause menu to select which weapon is in use.
While Clank is controlled, the Quick Select is instead used to command Gadge-Bots. It includes only four items: Enter, Wait, Follow, and Attack.
Going Commando[]
Like the previous title, the Quick Select in Going Commando has one ring with up to eight weapons and/or gadgets for Ratchet, which can be customized from the menu. This is the first Quick Select which will pause the game while opened (though pausing can be toggled off in the options menu for added challenge). In addition to displaying the ammo of the weapon, it will also display the experience bar, used to indicate progress towards upgrading the weapon. The weapon icon will be white for the base version, orange for upgraded versions, and yellow and blue for the Mega and Ultra upgrades respectively.
While Clank is controlled, the Quick Select contains Microbot commands, including Enter, Wait, Follow, Attack, as well as commands for Hammer Bots, Bridge Bots, and Lifter Bots.
Up Your Arsenal[]
The Quick Select in Up Your Arsenal has two rings instead of one, with eight items each, allowing for a total of sixteen weapons or gadgets to be added. It also allows players to add different control/view options (specifically third-person mode, first-person mode, and lock-strafe mode) so they can easily switch. The alternate Quick Select ring is accessed by holding ; releasing it returns to the first ring. Unlike previous titles, all icons are identical in color.
Clank's Quick Select gives him the basic four Gadgebot commands as seen throughout Ratchet & Clank.
In multiplayer, the Quick Select does not pause gameplay.
Deadlocked[]
The Quick Select feature in Deadlocked was the first to both feature a grid-based menu rather than a ring, as well as being unable to be modified to the player's needs. The grid menu consists of nine squares, the center being empty, which thus gives space to eight of the ten weapons, each in a fixed position. The Mini Turret Launcher and The Harbinger are acquired last and can thus only be selected through the second grid page (by pressing ), which is also where you can manually equip the Swingshot.
The various omega mods are depicted as bright dots on the bottom-right of each weapon icon, allowing players to visually tell what each weapon comes equipped with.
You can also issue commands to your combat bots while the quick select menu is open, allowing you to take your time to give a specific series of orders.
Going Mobile[]
The Quick Select in Going Mobile cannot be customized, as there are only seven weapons, which is enough to fit all on one ring.
Size Matters[]
Size Matters has only one Quick Select ring with eight slots. Slots can be customized from the start menu, in either the Weapons or Gadgets section. Clank also shares the same Quick Select menu for his gadgebots from the first games, as well as an alternate version containing unique commands for the Gadgebot Survival minigame.
In multiplayer, the Quick Select does not pause gameplay.
Secret Agent Clank[]
Secret Agent Clank features two separate Quick Select menus consisting of one ring with eight slots each, for both Clank and Ratchet. Both characters can customize the slots through their inventory menu, from which they can select either weapons or gadgets. The gadgebot mk.IIs also retain their own Quick Select menu from the previous games.
Tools of Destruction[]
The Quick Select in Tools of Destruction has three rings of eight slots each, allowing for up to 24 weapons, gadgets, or combat devices total as Ratchet. Quick Select rings are cycled between using and to cycle left and right respectively. The ammo is displayed for weapons and devices, while the weapon's current level is displayed for weapons. As with previous titles, the Quick Select can be customized from the pause menu.
As Clank, the Quick Select is used to command the Zoni. Only four commands are available; Follow, Charge Up, Manipulate, and Levitate.
Quest for Booty[]
The Quick Select in Quest for Booty has only one ring with eight slots, which holds all the weapons as the player only receives a maximum of seven weapons total. The Quick Select cannot be customized.
A Crack in Time[]
The Quick Select in A Crack in Time is similar to that of Tools of Destruction: Ratchet's Quick Select has three rings with eight slots each, giving it a total of 24 slots, and rings are selected by pressing or to switch between them. A first for the series, all slots are used for weapons, as gadgets are instead selected separately using the directional buttons. As nineteen weapons are obtained, there are more than enough slots for all weapons.
As Clank, the Quick Select is used when issuing temporal recording controls on a Time Pad.
All 4 One[]
Unlike other titles, the Quick Select in All 4 One is used by holding the stick. It is colored depending on the character's color (orange for Ratchet, blue for Clank, green for Captain Qwark, purple for Dr. Nefarious). The Quick Select will only pause either in single player, or if all players in multiplayer are using the Quick Select at once.
Full Frontal Assault[]
The Quick Select in Full Frontal Assault has one ring with eight slots, though the player will not pick up more than eight weapons. When placing turrets, a small Quick Select appears allowing the player to choose which turret to place.
Into the Nexus[]
The Quick Select in Into the Nexus has two rings, with the first holding eight weapons, and the second holding four, meaning all twelve weapons are accessible from the Quick Select.
Ratchet & Clank (2016)[]
Unlike the original game, the Quick Select in the 2016 re-imagined game pauses while in use. It has two rings with eight slots each, holding all fifteen weapons and the Hologuise gadget, as the remaining gadgets are simply used upon interacting with the environment. This title also provides the option to select weapons using the directional buttons without opening the Quick Select menu.
As Clank, the Quick Select is used while holding a gadgebot to reprogram it to a bridgebot, springbot, or powerbot as needed. The directional buttons can also be used to do this instantly.
