The Plasma Striker was a crossbow in Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. Despite being a crossbow, it functioned like a sniper rifle, similar to the Flux Rifle and Fusion Rifle. At V1 it had an ammo capacity of 8 plasma bolts and cost 33,000 bolts starting in Krell Canyon. To use this weapon, the player pressed L1 to enter scope mode, then pressed L3 to zoom in and circle or R1 to fire. When it upgraded to V5 it became the Plasma Slayer which could pierce enemies to hit the ones behind them.

The Plasma Striker was equipped with an experimental bioscope that marked an enemy's weak spots. This feature combined extremely well with the Glove. The Glove could be used to freeze the enemy, giving Ratchet a chance to target the weak spot. The "freeze" technique also worked by throwing a Groovitron, but wasn't advised since the enemies' dances could vary from energetic to steady. It worked well on the Agorians, as they were usually tapping or being stationary.

The Plasma Striker returns in Into the Nexus as a sniper weapon for the game. It is once again very powerful if you hit the enemy in its weak spot, which is much harder in the game due to not having the Groovitron or freezing weapons.

The Plasma Striker has a low rate of fire and low ammunition with a small radius, but its shots are extremely powerful and it has a very long range. Its damage can be greatly increased by targeting the weak points of enemies, located by viewing down the weapons' scopes. This means that the Plasma Striker is best used when away from combat, in order to destroy larger targets before Ratchet moves in on the area, as it is difficult to aim down the scopes while fighting enemies up close. Alternatively, the player can use the Groovitron or similar disabling weapons (such as the Glove in A Crack in Time) to disable enemies and then aim down the scopes to damage them (though when using the Groovitron, enemies may be difficult to hit while dancing). The Striker can also prove useful against bosses which are large enough targets that they won't be missed by the player.

  +
The Plasma Striker can be upgraded to the Plasma Slayer with use. This allows its shots to pierce through the first enemy and damage targets behind it. This makes the weapon more useful, as it allows it to be useful not just against larger single targets, but against groups of targets together when firing from afar. Regardless of the upgrade, the weapon remains very niche and is best used in specific situations, normally from a long distance.

*The Plasma Striker was the first sniper rifle where the player could see the bullets, which had the appearance of being abnormally large, even for a rifle bullet. Realistically, even a miss would cause an enemy to be torn apart by the air pocket from the size and velocity of the bullet. It was likely, however, it was just for comical effect.

*For balance purposes, it could not be reloaded using ammo from an ammo crate, instead it had to be restocked at a vendor. There was a Agorian Battleplex challenge that when the player got the Plasma Striker and hit a ammo crate, it is revealed the Plasma Striker had its own ammo

The Plasma Striker is a weapon in A Crack in Time, Into the Nexus, and Ratchet & Clank (2016 game). Manufactured by Grummel Net Industries, it is a crossbow which functions as a sniper rifle, with good range and damage and the ability to target the weak spots of enemies through its experimental bioscope.

The Plasma Striker can be upgraded to the Plasma Slayer with use, which can pierce through enemies to damage those behind the initial target. In challenge mode, the Omega Plasma Slayer was available.

History

Ratchet & Clank re-imagined

The 2016 re-imagined game is primarily an unreliable retelling of events by Qwark.
The re-imagined game primarily describes Captain Qwark's account of events. As Qwark is an unreliable narrator, and contradictory events are in-universe fiction (though those which correspond still apply). Please see Project:Bulletin board/Canon for the wiki's coverage of canon.

In Qwark's retelling, the Plasma Striker was available for purchase upon reaching Gaspar for 21,000 bolts from a Gadgetron vendor. It could be upgraded to the Plasma Slayer with use at V5. It could also be upgraded with Raritanium.

In challenge mode, it may upgrade to the Omega Plasma Slayer, available for purchase once the holocard set for the Plasma Striker was complete.

A Crack in Time

The Plasma Striker was available for purchase upon reaching Krell Canyon for 33,000 bolts. It could then be upgraded to the Plasma Slayer with use (at V5). In challenge mode, the Omega Plasma Slayer was available for purchase for 233,000 bolts.

Into the Nexus

The Plasma Striker returned as a sniper weapon, and once again could be upgraded to the Plasma Slayer with use (at V3). It could also be upgraded with Raritanium.

Characteristics

The Plasma Striker is a yellow, metallic crossbow. It features a bioscope and a laser sight, as well as a left hand grip, making its design a hybrid of a typical crossbow and a sniper rifle.

The Plasma Slayer features two blue crossbows instead aligned as crosshairs, combined into a single rifle, with a large scope. In Into the Nexus, the Plasma Slayer retains the same design, but features the colors of the Plasma Striker.

Combat

The Plasma Striker has a low rate of fire and low ammunition with a small radius, but its shots are extremely powerful and it has a very long range. Its damage can be greatly increased by targeting the weak points of enemies, located by viewing down the weapons' scopes. This means that the Plasma Striker is best used when away from combat, in order to destroy larger targets before Ratchet moves in on the area, as it is difficult to aim down the scopes while fighting enemies up close. Alternatively, the player can use the Groovitron or similar disabling weapons (such as the CryoMine Glove in A Crack in Time) to disable enemies and then aim down the scopes to damage them (though when using the Groovitron, enemies may be difficult to hit while dancing). The Striker can also prove useful against bosses which are large enough targets that they won't be missed by the player.

Behind the scenes

The Plasma Striker appears as a weapon for Ratchet in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
