The Pirate corsair is the ranged unit of the Space Pirates enemy faction in Rift Apart. They attack from a distance with their antique musket pistols in short bursts.
They are very similar to their counterparts in Ratchet's dimension; the corsairs. Throughout the events of Rift Apart their armor will become upgraded and their attacks will inflict more damage.
History[]
Rift Apart[]
They first appear at Zurkie's and are fought during the Bronze Cup challenge "Welcoming Committee", where Rivet fights several pirates to win a signal booster for Clank from Pierre Le Fer.
They are encountered again by Rivet during the pirate raid of Molonoth Gulch on Torren IV and by Ratchet at their home base on planet Ardolis. After being broken out of their cells along with all the other inmates at Zordoom Prison by Rivet, they form an alliance with her and her allies against the Nefarious Troopers that imprisoned them. Later at Megalopolis, the Pirate Corsairs assist Ratchet and Rivet against Emperor Nefarious' forces and his Imperial Power Suit.
Several of the pirate's pistols are seen at the entrance to the Gastropub in the weapons confiscation room. Many pistols are also seen confiscated in a large pile at Zordoom Prison along with their shields and swords, when the pirates were captured and imprisoned by the Nefarious Troopers.
Combat[]
Corsairs like to hang back in the distance to take advantage of their ranged attack. You'll need to keep an eye out for their projectile fire so that you don't run into them while strafing about. They are however quite unarmored, meaning so long as a weapon is powerful enough, it'll do nicely to take them out. The projectiles they fire from their pistols look extremely similar to the bombs fired from the Bouncer, but instead travel in a straight horizontal direction towards Ratchet or Rivet.
They take a lot of evasive action running side to side and keeping their distance from the lombaxes. If you get close enough to them they will swing their arm and hit you with their weapon in a melee attack. The shots fired from their guns can be blocked and caught using the Void Repulser, which when fired will launch them back at them.
Trivia[]
- A corsair is a french term used for a privateer who commits pirating activities on the cargo and shipping vessels of a nation they are at war with. It is also the name for a model of antique percussion pistol.
