The nuclear-powered rocket sled[a] is a vehicle in Tools of Destruction, with minor appearances in later titles. An invention by Ratchet, he and Clank flew the vehicle once in Metropolis, Kerwan to reach the Planetary Defense Center, before the city was attacked by the Imperial Army.
While working on the rocket sled with Clank, Ratchet hoped to ride the slipstream of Metropolis' grav-train past the c-grid traffic and then use its mag-grappler onto the pedway overpass and slingshot higher up in the city. He checked the fuel lines and horizontal stabilizers, but despite Clank's insistence, neglected to check the ion thrusters. The two piloted the sled early after Captain Qwark called them about the drophyd invasion, and during their trip, the ion thrusters did indeed fail, requiring them to use the auxiliary thrusters. Partway through their trip, they ultimately crashed into a blimp.[3]
Bits and pieces of the rocket sled appeared in Clank's subconscious, and in the Deadgrove Forest of planet Magnus. After Ratchet returned to Veldin, he kept the nuclear-powered rocket sled and made "legal-ish" modifications to it. Clank used it to help Ratchet destroy Artemis Zogg's robot minions when they attacked Veldin in Ears of War.[4]
The rocket sled was also developed for the Ratchet & Clank movie.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
Muclear-powered rocket sleds are mentioned in unused dialogue for Tools of Destruction as Captain Qwark mentioned their use within city limits was prohibited with a fine of 3,000 bolts and 20 days in a correctional facility for violation.[6]
A rocket sled appeared in Ratchet & Clank: Life of Pie, where Qwark accidentally started it, sending it crashing into a group of civilians in the distance.
Note[]
Annotations[]
- ↑ Clank first brings up the name "nuclear-powered rocket sled" as an example of Ratchet's more ridiculous inventions, along with the "anti-matter bathroom body" and "electro shock undergarments" that Ratchet named "Stunderwear".[1] Ratchet later referred to the device with "ever since the rocket sled",[2] referring to Clank's behavior since the start of Tools of Destruction.
