Drek's new planet is an unvisited location in Ratchet & Clank, also appearing in the 2016 re-imagined game and movie with the name New Quartu. It is an artificially made planet built by Drek Industries, sold by Chairman Drek as a new homeworld for his people, the blarg, after their homeworld of Orxon became too overpopulated and poisonous for the blarg to dwell there.[1]

In order to create the planet, Drek used blarg harvesters to take the perfect pieces of other planets in the Solana Galaxy to use for the new one, destroying those planets in the process. Drek's new planet, if completed, would have had many landmarks from other planets, and have maintained optimum temperature all year round.[2] However, it was destroyed by Ratchet and Clank.

History[]

Pre-Ratchet & Clank[]

Orxon, the blarg homeworld, was polluted by Drek Industries,[3] leaving the blarg without a homeworld. This led Drek to begin planning the creation of a new planet, which he told the blarg and the rest of the galaxy as a noble cause to make a new home for his people,[4] but was in reality motivated by profit.[3] Galactic celebrity Captain Qwark was hired to be the highly paid spokesperson for his new planet.[5]

A piece of Novalis was chosen early on, targeted for its renowned sewer systems among other reasons.[6]

Agnogg Buckwash attempted to protest Drek's invasion of Novalis, but was thrown out after wearing Drek's patience. Drek's next target was Eudora, harvesting the trees for the new planet, and his Robot Lieutenant completed the quota of trees, albeit barely.[7] Later, the blarg attacked Oltanis from the orbital Gemlik Base, intent on stealing Oltanis' power generators.[8]

While completing the new planet, Drek's scientists searched for the perfect orbital position for the planet that could maintain optimum temperature all year round.[2] This orbital position was already occupied by Veldin, requiring Drek to destroy the planet. Drek Industries first built the PlanetBuster Maximus missile on Hoven, before it was destroyed by Ratchet and Clank. Later, he built the Deplanetizer superlaser, and dragged his new planet to the orbit of Veldin from his fleet.

Ratchet and Clank instead used the superlaser to destroy Drek's new planet, after launching Drek towards it, destroying both him and the planet with the laser at once.

Re-imagined[]

The 2016 re-imagined game is primarily an unreliable retelling of events by Qwark.
The re-imagined game primarily describes Captain Qwark's account of events. As Qwark is an unreliable narrator, and contradictory events are in-universe fiction (though those which correspond still apply). Please see Project:Bulletin board/Canon for the wiki's coverage of canon.

In the Ratchet & Clank film and Qwark's retelling of its events, Drek's new planet was named New Quartu, as the blarg homeworld in these version of events was planet Quartu. Drek himself was motivated to create New Quartu as he had never had a proper homeworld of his own, after his father's company polluted New Quartu. He teamed up with Dr. Nefarious, who created the Deplanetizer, capable of destroying a planet and sending harvesters to take the pieces and reassemble them into a new, perfect planet.

After destroying five unpopulated planets, including planet Tenemule, the Galactic Rangers went on alert to stop him.[9] Drek targeted Pokitaru's water, using hydroharvesters to drain the water for New Quartu, but was stopped by Ratchet and Clank when they were destroyed.[10]

Drek's sixth target was planet Novalis, a populated planet. After the Rangers failed to stop Drek, it was destroyed. Later, Dr. Nefarious convinced Drek to target Umbris, despite the planet having an unstable core, meaning that destroying it would also destroy the rest of the system. Before firing it, Dr. Nefarious betrayed Drek, turning him into a sheep with a Sheepinator, and blasting him off to New Quartu. The Rangers used Mag Boosters to redirect the Deplanetizer and cause it to blow up New Quartu, with Drek still on the planet as it happened.

Characteristics[]

From space, Drek's new planet appears very fragmented, with the pieces barely held together. It contains landmarks from many planets in the galaxy, including Novalis, Eudora, and Oltanis. If Drek had finished it, the planet would have had optimum temperatures all year round.[2]
