Gadgetron vendor from R&C (2002) render

A Gadgetron vendor from Ratchet & Clank.

Ratchet & Clank features two types of vendors. In the Solana Galaxy the most common are the segmented blue cubes, owned and operated by Gadgetron Corporation. These sell weapons and ammunition, the latter of which is also done by the Gadgetron Personal Delivery Assistant, albeit at an inflated price. They are available at essentially any location ever visited, updating their stock as you progress through the game. The other vendor is the so-called 'gold weapons room', a secret room where gold weapons can be purchased, more powerful versions of a select group of ten total, that require gold bolts alongside a large sum of normal bolts.

Technically not a vendor, the Shady Salesman does sell the unique R.Y.N.O. for the price of 150,000 bolts. Similarly the Gadgetron PDA is sold by 'Steve McQwark' in "Purchase Gadgetron PDA from 'Steve'". Other characters also sell various gadgets and items, but the most relevant is the Persuader from "Bring raritanium to inventor", a black market device that lowers the price of Gadgetron weapons.

Vendors[]

Gadgetron vendor[]

The blue Gadgetron vendors sell most weapons in the game. The exceptions are the Bomb Glove (it being already owned by Ratchet), the R.Y.N.O. (purchased from the Shady Salesman on Rilgar), the Suck Cannon (obtained on Eudora after "Explore the mills"), the Morph-o-Ray (obtained on Oltanis after "Search the destroyed city"), and the gold weapons.

They appear as a segmented blue cube, with four antenna jutting out from each side's center. Each vendor has a large black "G", in fact a hologram, denoting their location, with the word "Gadgetron" revolving around. When activating the vendor, the segmented pieces of the vendor will separate out to form the menu screens. The top screen contains a scrolling message describing the product (or gags if left idle). The bottom screen contains weapon icons for either the weapon or ammo to be purchased. The left screen contains an image of the product, while the right contains a transmission of a vendor salesman. The middle of the menu contains a rotating model of the selected weapon, while the "Buy" and "Exit options" appear below the left and right screens.

The vendor salesman.

The salesman is a green reptilian Gadgetron tradesman operating vendors. He often makes comments on Ratchet's purchase and sometimes jokes. He appears to be of the same species as Wendell Lumos, the Gadgetron CEO. He could be seen at the premiere for the Secret Agent Clank movie, appearing near the back of the audience on the right. After Ratchet & Clank, no vendors made comments about Ratchet's purchases until the GrummelNet vendors in Tools of Destruction.

Gold weapons room[]

The only other vendor is the so-called 'gold weapons room', a secret room where gold weapons can be purchased. Two gold weapon rooms are found, with one hidden on the Gemlik Base available on the first playthrough, and one accessed in the Tobruk Crater on planet Novalis in challenge mode. The Gemlik room contains five gold weapons in the first playthrough, and all ten are available in both during challenge mode. Each gold weapon here can be purchased for four gold bolts and between ten to sixty thousand normal bolts.

The Gemlik Base gold weapons room is located inside the tall observation tower at the end, next to the landing strip Qwark uses to take off for his bossfight. It is reached by wall-jumping to the top of the tower where the room is found. The Novalis gold weapons room is instead reached with a teleporter by the ship's landing point in challenge mode.

Purchasing all gold upgrades unlocks the 'Making Of' and Commercials videos in the goodies menu. In the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions of Ratchet & Clank, this will also unlock the gold trophy Ratchet, King Midas.

Pricing[]

Note that the R.Y.N.O. is the only weapon with ammo sold at vendors, while not being available itself from one. The Gemlik room weapons are the Gold Bomb Glove, Pyrocitor, Blaster, Glove of Doom, and the Suck Cannon, but only prior to challenge mode, which is when all ten are available. The Persuader discount comes down to 33% for the majority of the weapons, with instead 50% off for the weakest, and only 25% off for the strongest.
