Mend the Broken Phase Quartz is a mission in Rift Apart. When Rivet and Clank found phase quartz on Blizar Prime, it was broken by a laser from the Goons-4-Less. Rivet recalled hearing from the morts about the Fixer, an individual located on Torren IV who could repair anything. As such, the two agreed to travel there and repair it.
Two gold bolts can be along the path, one early on near the start of the path using the hoverboots, and one on the grind rail path.
Meeting the fixer during the mission will unlock the bronze trophy Emotional Support Robot.
Walkthrough[]
Recover the Hurlshot from the Smelting Pit[]
From where the ship lands, head down the linear path and encounter some horny toads, which can be dispatched using the Lightning Rod among other weapons. After crossing the gap where the bridge was located using the Omniglove, Rivet will enter a town with vullards. Take the path down left to encounter Mrs. Zurkon, who sells the Buzz Blades, a rapid-fire weapon that fires sawblade projectiles that is effective against groups of small enemies and also medium-sized enemies. Though it is a strong choice, the Lightning Rod can serve a similar function well in the meantime, and more defensive options such as the Void Repulser or Glove of Doom may be preferable.
Past Ms. Zurkon, Rivet encounters a vullard, commencing a short cutscene, after which the vullard tells Rivet they are in need of a Hurlshot. Follow the linear path forward, where toxic crabs, horny toads, and wasps are fought. The toxic crabs can be defeated using weapons such as the Drillhound or Glove of Doom, while the wasps are best fought with ranged weapons such as the Ricochet. The Void Repulser is also effective here, blocking projectiles from the wasps while blasting the horny toads if they approach too quickly.
After defeating the enemies, take the grind rail to proceed. Several carts run along the tracks and present hazards to Rivet, and must be dodged either by jumping to an adjacent rail, an adjacent wall run, or using a Rift Tether. Jump on the platform at the end and use the Tethershot to reach another island, where a cutscene commences as space pirates attack. Though the pirates firing pistols are simple to defeat, those using shields are more challenging, as their shields will block most projectiles. This means weapons should attack from behind or around them to avoid their shield and pierce through. A simple strategy is to use the Topiary Sprinkler to freeze them in place and leave them vulnerable, though weapons such as the Shatterbomb and Glove of Doom that can easily get around their shields are also effective.
Return to Town with the Hurlshot[]
After defeating the pirates, use the hammercrank to lower the Hurlshot and obtain it, and Rivet will use it as an an attachment to the Omniglove. More pirates arrive in ships along the path. Rivet eventually arrives on a plateau surrounded by ships, which must be defeated with ranged weapons (the Void Repulser is also useful in blocking projectiles), before using the Hurlshot across to land on a larger ship. Here, a wave of pirates appear, as well as several bladeballs, which are simple enemies that can be defeated with the Lightning Rod or the Enforcer.
After all are defeated on the ship, a boss will arrive: "Wee" Roger, a Marauder which is identical to François fought previously at Zurkie's. Roger will also summon bladeballs throughout the fight, but otherwise has identical attacks: he fires large cannonballs that explode and drop mini bomblets on contact, and will leap forward and attack Rivet in close combat. Keep a distance from him, use the Topiary Sprinkler when he gets close, and fire at him from range. The bladeballs should be destroyed as a priority before attacking Roger, though using the Glove of Doom or Mr. Fungi may be sufficient in protecting Rivet while she focuses on shooting Roger.
Once Roger is defeated, a short cutscene commences as Rivet returns to the town.
Reboot the Fixer[]
Use the Hurlshot in town to cross to the Mech Graveyard, and from here, it is a linear path towards the Fixer. Toxic crabs and wasps appear at first, while pirates are fought later down the path. After clearing out a wave on the plateau on arrival, another Marauder, "Not-So-Wee" Roger, is fought, against which the tactics are the same against "Wee" Roger. Once he is defeated, use the Hurlshot forward and follow a path to reach a hammercrank that reboots the Fixer.
After a short cutscene, follow a grind rail path forward. Much like before, hop between adjacent rails or wall runs when the path is about to end. Make use of the Rift Tethers when available.
At the end of the rail, a cutscene commences, ending the mission. If "Forge the Dimensionator" was also complete, the mission "Build the Dimensionator" is unlocked at Zurkie's. Otherwise, complete Ratchet's missions first to unlock it.
