Megacorp gladiators[a] appear as enemies in Secret Agent Clank, as inmates of the Prison Planet. They gang up against Ratchet along with his other foes to attack him in prison out of revenge for putting them in there.[b] As with other foes fought in the prison, they have larger, mega variants. The gladiators first fought Ratchet in the challenge "Past Due".
Characteristics[]
These enemies are based on the Megacorp gladiators fought in the arena challenges of Going Commando. Instead of their gladiator armor, sword, and shield, they wear prison outfit and wield barbells as weapons (or giant chicken wings in the Mess Hall), attacking by swinging their weapon, or charging up to Ratchet, leaping toward him, and slamming their barbells to the ground.
The mega variants are large, red versions of the gladiators and wield large maces instead. In the PlayStation 2 port they were green-skinned rather than red up until the exercise yard.
Combat[]
Megacorp gladiators have greater toughness than the tyhrranoids, but less variety of attacks than the lizard thugs. Ultimately, their main threat is that they can overwhelm Ratchet in large numbers, especially combined with their lunging attacks. The Dual Lacerators and later long-range weapons are effective at defeating them before they reach Ratchet and become a threat, while the Shard Gun is useful at slowing them down and damaging them in groups. The Mine Launcher is also an effective deterrent.
The mega variant's overhead swing attack will generate a large shockwave, although its actual damage radius is smaller than it looks.
Notes[]
- Annotations
- ↑ Though the enemies were named Megacorp gladiators in Going Commando,[1] they have no name in Secret Agent Clank.
- ↑ It is unclear why the gladiators were sent from the Bogon Galaxy to a prison in the Solana Galaxy. It is also unclear what their crime was that led them there, as unlike the other former foes of Ratchet, they were simply employees of Megacorp, albeit genetically engineered,[1] that fought in apparently-legal arenas.
