Maraxus is a location in Deadlocked. Located in the Shadow Sector of the Solana Galaxy, it is a desert planet that is the site of Maraxus Prison. The prison was once a feared, heavily-guarded detention facility where the worst criminals in Solana were sent, but slowly fell into disuse when the Shadow Sector became a home for criminals. Later, Vox Industries took over the abandoned facility and used it as a battlecourse for DreadZone.

Ratchet and Team Darkstar arrived for the Maraxus challenges.

History[]

The Maraxus Prison predated the planet's inhospitable state. The planet was feared in a thousand systems as a detention facility, heavily guarded by ferroconcrete walls, plasma defense grids,[1] and the Maraxus Air Patrol force using Bogo grenade launchers as weapons.[2] When the rest of the planet around the Maraxus Prison fell, its inmates never knew, due to how tightly the prison was built; once their sentences were served, they were released onto the planet's arid cinder.[1]

At some point, Vox Industries made use of the abandoned prison as a battlecourse for DreadZone. Few contestants made it further than Beta Block[3] When Ratchet competed, his objective in the battlecourse was to free his combat bots, Merc and Green, who were held in the prison.[4] Ratchet freed them after making his way through Beta Block and Delta Block, making it further through the prison than any contestant in DreadZone history.[3] He also seized the first node in the challenge "Total Control" in record time,[5] and his performance overall even impressed Dallas Wanamaker.[6]

Geography[]

Maraxus Prison map

The Maraxus Prison map.

Maraxus is a desert wasteland with thick clouds and sandstorms. From space, the planet appears to be very dry, covered almost entirely by land with very small patches of ocean present. However, the planet was not always in an inhospitable desert state.[1]

Maraxis Prison is constructed with ferroconcrete walls and plasma defense grids.[1] As such, the abandoned prison complex remains mostly intact, and comprises heavily-guarded structures with a few watch towers over them. The structures are each built atop rock plateaus, meaning they are located a decent amount above ground level (and likely harder to escape), and all have domed roofs.

The complex has a cluster of central buildings joined together by tunnels connected to its largest building, all of which contain the cell blocks alpha to delta. Within these cell blocks are heavily armored doors for each cell, though the combat bots were held in glass cylinders in the center of the two different blocks.

Surrounding the central complex are several towers dotted around, resembling guard towers. Between the buildings are patches of desert land, with plasma defense grids blocking the way for inmates to traverse between them.

Multiplayer[]

Part of the Maraxus Prison is featured in multiplayer as the Maraxus Prison map. The accessible terrain only includes the northern half of the map, with the passages to the south blocked off by a large cliff wall. The large and open space of the map lends itself well to the included hoverbikes and Puma. The only feature of note is a jump pad that grants access to the small arena in the center of the map, which has two additional exits, but still only one way in through the jump pad.
