The Marauder is the muscle of the robot Space Pirates in Rivet's dimension. Reinforced with raritanium alloy plating, these large bots can punch through the hull of most interstellar freighters and trade ships. Each of them is equipped with a deadly mortar cannon, and a sizzling track list of classic sea shanties. They are the miniboss unit of the Space Pirate enemy faction in Rift Apart.

They are very similar to their Space Pirate counterpart unit in Ratchet's dimension; the Rogue. All of the Marauders fought in Rift Apart are named.

History[]

Rift Apart[]

A Marauder is first encountered at Zurkie's by Rivet, seen as a patron in the Gastropub. Soon after, one named François is fought for the first time in the Battleplex Bronze Cup challenge "Monsieur François". He is Pierre Le Fer's partner and is fought in his place so that Rivet can win a signal booster for Clank's communicator. Presumably François is the same Marauder seen in the Gastropub as he isn't present anymore after François is defeated.

Later, during the pirates' raid of Molonoth Gulch on Torren IV, a Marauder named "Wee" Roger is fought by Rivet on a pirate command ship, and another named "Not-So-Wee" Roger soon after when Rivet is on her way to reboot the Fixer.

On Ardolis, during the third and final of the Pirate Trials, Ratchet fights a Marauder named Crabcakes McGee so he can reach Captain Quantum. Soon after, when Quantum accidentally drops his robot disguise and the pirates believe he has murdered their captain, they launch a huge assault to destroy him, with Ratchet and Clank protecting him so they can escape. During the pirates' assault they attempt to use a large cannon known as a Scuttler that is protected by two Marauders named The Tide Twins, whom Ratchet must fight both at once and defeat.

A Marauder is seen at the Zordoom Prison Processing Centre inside a cell along with several other pirates. When the Space Pirates become temporary allies to Ratchet and Rivet after helping them escape Zordoom, they go with them to Megalopolis to assist in the fight against Emperor Nefarious and stop his invasion of Ratchet and Clank's dimension. Marauders are seen assisting in the battle against the invading Nefarious Troopers and the Emperor's Imperial Power Suit.

Combat[]

Being the miniboss unit of the Space Pirates, the Marauders possess a lot of health and some very hard hitting attacks. As such, it is suggested you use heavy weapons like the Negatron Collider and the Warmonger. Despite its large size, the Marauder is particularly mobile and will jump around the battlefield a lot, so when using the Negatron Collider, make a habit of pulling R2 halfway to charge up a shot without firing. This helps make sure you don't fire a shot right when he jumps away.

The Marauder shares a lot in common with it's dimensional counterpart unit; the Rogue, however the Marauder is more formidable in combat, having the ability to leap large distances and fire a large bomb from it's cannon arm that is very similar to the bombs of the Bouncer. When these bombs detonate, they explode into a ring of smaller bombs, that will bounce away in all directions from the point of impact and explode immediately if any touch Ratchet or Rivet. This is a particularly dangerous attack, because If you get hit by the bomb, you will be hit stunned for a moment and the smaller bombs will quickly inflict more additional damage. On higher difficulties when the bomb is lobbed by the Marauder, it will travel much faster through the air and reach the Lombaxes much quicker. Also if you get too close to the Marauder it will begin slamming the ground with it's large left arm, creating damaging shockwaves.
