Krakens are a highly dangerous species of large octopus that appear in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Krakens are present on planets Ardolis and Viceron in Rivet's dimension, and are also indicated to exist in Ratchet's dimension.[1]
One notable large kraken is Bubbles, who inhabited the Ardolis of Rivet's dimension and was used by the space pirates in executions.
History[]
Rift Apart[]
As a result of the Dimensionator tearing holes in reality a kraken reaches through a portal to grab several Goons-4-Less on Corson V.
On Ardolis, Ratchet and Clank encounter the kraken Bubbles several times, first when he kills a group of space pirates who were about to attack them, they then proceed to save Pierre Le Fer from him after the pirates summon him using a bell. Bubbles goes on to attack them as they attempt to reach the pirate trials, destroying a bridge in the process. Finally, the duo summon Bubbles using a bell in order to destroy the scuttler.
Several krakens appear during Rivet's visit to Viceron, with one attempting to grab her as she traversed the prison outskirts.[2]
Once Emperor Nefarious has been critically damaged in his battle with Rivet, Ratchet opens a portal to a kraken - presumably Bubbles - who drags the emperor away after Dr. Nefarious refuses to help him.
Characteristics[]
The body of a kraken has never been seen, only their tentacles - which are similar to those of the sepiad, a fellow aquatic carnivore. Two types have been seen, the smaller variety as present on Viceron and seen through a portal on Corson V, and the large variety - such as Bubbles of Ardolis.
Behind the scenes[]
Potentially by coincidence, a creature of similar role and appearance to a kraken appears in Ratchet & Clank: Life of Pie, where a giant tentacle emerges from SV-604 as a result of the Portalizer to attack Ratchet and Clank's ship, and then is summoned by Ratchet once more at the end to foil Dr. Nefarious' plans.
