The kerchu mechwrecker,[1] also known as the kerchu guardian,[2] is a boss in Tools of Destruction. It is an immense mech piloted by a number of kerchu, with wrecking ball arms, missile weaponry, and the ability both to fly and move with treads. Ratchet and Clank fought it in "Defeat the Kerchu Guardian" when it defended the Dimensionator in Kerchu City, Jasindu.
Characteristics[]

The kerchu mechwrecker.
The kerchu mechwrecker is piloted by at least four kerchu: the leader, a large yellow one at the mech's head, one at the "hip" of the machine, most likely to control the lower body and upper body, and two red ones for each arm. The mechwrecker appears to run on gelatonium fuel, as four large gelatonium tanks are seen behind it, and gelatonium bubbles are sometimes left behind after its attacks.
The mechwrecker has a vast array of attacks and weapons. Its arms have wrecking ball hands used to slam surfaces and damage opponents, and to be shot out and retracted, are its main attack. It is also capable of firing missiles, and deploying kerchu rollers.

Behind the scenes[]
The kerchu mechwrecker boss fight was developed during pre-production, and the time awarded to them in pre-production gave Insomniac Games ample time to make the boss over-the-top. Moo Yu, Lead Gameplay Programmer at Insomniac Games, commented during Tools of Production that the boss fight was his favorite part of the level.[3]
The boss was worked on by Zach Adams, Senior Environment Artist at Insomniac, along with artist Chris Capili, immediately after Resistance: Fall of Man, requiring significant trial and error to achieve the end result. Because the boss fight involved Ratchet doing 180 degree flips, the artists had to make the level look as good upside-down as it does right-side up.[4]
In Ratchet & Clank (2016 game) it appears in the Insomniac Museum.
