Junk Bot is a utility bot who appears in Rift Apart at the Kedaro Station on planet Cordelion. Two different dimensional versions of Junk Bot appear.
History[]
Before Rift Apart[]
In Rivet's dimension, Junk Bot works as a dutiful servant of Emperor Nefarious and the Nefarious Empire at Kedaro Station. He appears to be an authority figure of some sort at the Rubion Forge.
In dimension ???, a counterpart of Junk Bot also worked at the facility some point in the past. Some time several years prior to the events of Rift Apart, Junk Bot discovered a mysterious creature swimming in the Cordelion oceans that he grew a fondness for and developed a friendship with. Upon revealing the existence of the creature to the other workers at the station however, he was dismayed when they forcibly captured it and used it's extreme amounts of bio-electricity to make it a living battery for the Rubion Forge. It can be deduced that Junk Bot later in his distress broke the creature out of it's containment and it proceeded to decimate the facility, leaving it abandoned for several years. This alternate dimension appears to be an offshoot of Rivet's, the old remains of Nefarious Troopers in the abandoned station indicate that an alternate Nefarious Empire and presumably an alternate Emperor Nefarious was in control of the facility at one point before the creature broke free and went on a rampage. During these years Junk Bot named the creature Juice and stayed with it on the abandoned station, where the utility bot's mental health deteriorated in his extended isolation. In Rivet's dimension a counterpart to the creature was first discovered by Emperor Nefarious, who also had it captured and used as a power source for his Rubion Forge. Here Junk Bot had no such relationship with the creature, meaning it never escaped it's confinement and remained a battery.
Rift Apart[]
When Ratchet and Kit traveled to planet Cordelion to use Kedaro Station's Rubion Forge to create a new Dimensionator, they accidentally alerted the facility and initiated a lockdown. Their only option left was to strike a nearby Blizon crystal and shift into another dimension. In this alternate dimension known only as dimension ???, they found that the station was dilapidated and deserted, allowing them to enter the premises and hopefully find another Blizon crystal to get back to Rivet's dimension. Whilst navigating the abandoned station Ratchet and Kit met Junk Bot, who mistook them for Juice. Ratchet and Kit were sceptical of Junk Bot and unsure of his trustworthiness due to his evidently unsound mental state but had little choice and asked him if he knew where to find another Blizon crystal. Junk Bot claimed to know exactly where to find some, but first asked Ratchet to help him drain a flooded room so that he may recover his lost access arm. With his recovered arm, Junk Bot unlocks a door and the three travel through the facility until Ratchet is startled by an aggressive creature in a darkened room attempting to lunge at him before the door snaps shut on it. Junk Bot informs them that this was Juice, who the utility bot claims is his best friend and a great listener, despite the creature's attempts to kill him on occasion. After Ratchet restores the power to an elevator and the three descend down to the lower areas to find the Blizon, Juice violently attacks the outside of it. Junk Bot happily remarks that he has never seen Juice so "playful" and that he is actively chasing Ratchet, as the creature usually roams the station and keeps to himself. Ratchet and Kit say their presumed goodbyes to Junk Bot and gladly use the Blizon to escape back to Rivet's dimension and away from Juice.
Upon entering the Rubion Forge, Ratchet and Kit were confronted by the Junk Bot of Rivet's dimension and questioned how they got into the facility during the lockdown. Kit pretended to be a royal decorator sent to perform a remodelling of the facility and threatened Junk Bot with ruining the Emperor's surprise, leading him to fearfully apologize and allowing them to carry on. Ratchet's attempt to use the Rubion Forge to build the Dimensionator ends in failure however, as he accidentally uses the machine with auxiliary power only, causing it to malfunction and be destroyed, much to Junk Bot's horror who furiously calls in security forces to apprehend them. With no other choice, Ratchet and Kit retreat back to dimension ??? to escape the station's pursuing Nefarious Troopers. Here they decide to try and use the decrepit facility's dormant Rubion Forge and power it up again, this dimenson's Junk Bot informs them that the forge has become infected with computer viruses in it's inactive state and will need to be cleared out before it can be used. After Glitch clears the forge of the Zeta Viruses, Junk Bot recounts that it's power source was downstairs the last he saw it. In his deficient mental state he seems to have forgotten much of Juice's and his own past. Whilst looking for the power source downstairs, Ratchet and Kit run into Juice multiple times as he attempts to attack them while they evade him and escape through several pressure locked doors. As Ratchet and Kit are disabling the locks to a blast door so they may advance and find more Blizon, they come across an old station video log showing one of Junk Bot's first encounters with Juice just before he was captured and taken to be used as the forge's power source.
After escaping Juice several times and using Blizon to get back to Rivet's dimension to try and find the forge's power source, Ratchet and Kit discovered for themselves that Juice himself was the power source. Upon freeing the Juice of Rivet's dimension, the creature helps Ratchet defeat the station's Elite Security Detail and leads Ratchet back to more Blizon before shifting along with him to dimension ??? together. At the abandoned forge, this dimension's Juice aggressively advanced on Junk Bot who tried to calm down the biomorph by reminding him of their friendship. Juice loudly roared at Junk Bot, sending him hurdling across the room. At this moment the Juice from Rivet's dimension lunged at his counterpart and the two intensely sized eachother up but eventually both became calmed and collected by the other. The now dazed Junk Bot picked himself up again, while the two Juice's used their bio-electricity to power up the forge together, allowing Ratchet and Kit to finally create the Dimensionator correctly. Junk Bot happily laughs whilst petting the two now docile Juices and celebrates the inclusion of new friends. The two Juices then playfully chase eachother around the Rubion Forge while Ratchet and Kit say their farewells to Junk Bot and take the elevator back up to the surface to find another Blizon crystal, returning to Rivet's dimension once again.
The Junk Bot of Rivet's dimension stayed at the destroyed Rubion Forge and eventually was relieved of his servitude after the fall of Emperor Nefarious and his empire by the end of Rift Apart's events. In the ending credits, the Junk Bot of dimension ??? is seen on the surface of Kedaro Station happily greeting several more benevolent members of Juice's species in the Cordelion waters.
Characteristics[]
The Junk Bot of Rivet's dimension is a diligent member of the team at the station's Rubion Forge and like many servants, he has a great fear of Emperor Nefarious. Kit was able to use this fear to her advantage and exploited it to allow her and Ratchet access to the Rubion Forge by pretending to be interior decorators sent by the Emperor to embellish the facility. Being a robot in servitude to the Nefarious Empire, this Junk Bot has a prejudice against organics and only converses with Kit whilst refusing to speak to Ratchet, who he likens to a "steed".
The Junk Bot of dimension ??? was at some point in the past a servant, working under an alternate Nefarious Empire and therefore an alternate Emperor Nefarious at the Kedaro Station much like his counterpart. He is a generally well meaning individual that wishes to make friends but is not of sound mind. The several years he has spent at the derelict Kedaro Station alone except for Juice however, has taken a toll on his sanity and caused him to behave in a delirious manner, causing him to sporadically laugh or sing to himself. He is rather overly talkative and has a tendency to ramble when speaking, likely due to his extensive lack of any companionship and has a penchant to often create nicknames. He sometimes spends considerable amounts of time gazing at Blizon crystals, remarking that he loves the way it sparkles after staring at it for six hours. The relationship he held with Juice for so long was rather tense, despite Junk Bot being the one to free him and leaving the utility bot as the only survivor on the station, Juice would still show violent aggression towards him, as evidenced by the many lacerations and injuries to his body. In spite of this, Junk Bot knew Juice's true gentle nature and continued trying to calm him from his traumatic experience being used as a living battery. After uniting with another of his species, Juice was able to compose himself and became docile, eventually showing his affection to Junk Bot.
