The Imperial Power Suit is the penultimate boss battle of Rift Apart. It is a giant robot, "a Nefarious as big as his ego" as Ratchet puts it, created by the Nefarious Empire, made in the very image of the Emperor, designed and piloted by Emperor Nefarious himself for only the most special of occasions (namely special annihilations of certain adversaries). It was designed to be a symbol of his infinite power and undeniable gravitas.
The Suit was built with incredibly durable parts crafted in the Rubion Forge, features solid blizon capacitors and is powered entirely by a bio-mechanical heart. The eyes comfortably fit two pilots and the chest area can fit enough Nefarious Troopers to devastate a planet. During the battle against the Suit in Megalopolis, Dr. Nefarious utilized the pilot's cockpit in the left eye and the Emperor the right.
History[]
Having finally felt that he has conquered all he knows in his own world, the Emperor uses the dimensionator to attempt to subjugate other dimensions and begins by invading Ratchet's universe with his robot armies. His first stop is Megalopolis, which he aims to turn into New Nefarious City to match it's dimensional counterpart. Ratchet, Clank, Rivet and the Resistance follow him and attempt to drive back the Emperor's forces. Upon seeing Ratchet and realizing him and Clank are the heroes of this dimension from the citizen's comments, Emperor Nefarious decides this calls for a special sort of annihilation and that he'd been looking for an excuse to wear his "new suit".
The Emperor then exited through a rift and reemerged through another soon after, piloting his giant mech Imperial Power Suit. In combination with the Dimensionator, he is able to fight Ratchet and Rivet from a distance and open rifts in front of them to attack through with little warning. The Suit's only external vulnerable parts seem to be the monitors that the Emperor uses to see on the ends of the arms and on the eyes of the mech's head. With the help of the Resistance, the allied Goons-4-Less members and the space pirates, Ratchet and Rivet are able to destroy the monitors and momentarily drive it back, leaving it blinded.
Gary and the Savali monks then assist, using their immense dimensional knowledge to open a rift into the Suit's chest area. Their abilities are limited however and they first need Ratchet to get as close to the Suit as he can. Inside the chest area, Ratchet attempts to destroy the bio-mechanical heart whilst fighting off waves of Nefarious Troopers and eventually succeeds, escaping through another rift stabilized by the monks. However in the chaos, Ratchet is then thrown to another part of the city while the Suit collapses and ceases to function.
Rivet then battles the Emperor with Kit holding off his armies in front of the Suit's wreckage. Eventually Emperor Nefarious is defeated and he is knocked by Rivet onto the head of the mech, where he then starts to be pulled into a rift by a kraken, finally finished off by his counterpart Dr. Nefarious and left to his presumed doom. The Doctor whilst celebrating having gotten rid of his hated counterpart, slips off the head of the Suit, with it falling over on top of him and pinning him to the ground.
Characteristics[]
The Suit features a suite of deadly weapons capable of planetary conquest with the chest housing hundreds of Nefarious Troopers ready to be deployed. It is extremely mobile and quick despite its immense size and the arms are extendable with huge clawed appendages at the end of each, capable of firing large laser streams from them.
The eyes on the head contain precision, sniper energy blasters, while the mouth uses two kinds of energy attacks. The first is a quick firing, red energy barrage attack, while the second fires a stream of rapid fire, purple energy that clings to the environment and will hurt Ratchet if he touches it. The monitors used by the pilot to see on the exterior are the Suit's biggest weakness and can blind them if destroyed, though they can be brought back online again after a brief period.
While at the Rubion Forge, inside Kedaro Station on Cordelion, Science-Bots can be overheard discussing the development of the Suit. The Emperor requested for it to be able to walk, shoot lasers of unspeakable power and to be over 100 stories tall.
Behind the scenes[]
During the battle against the Power Suit, Dr. Nefarious' character model in the left eye cockpit has his eyes closed the entire time, unlike the Emperor's. This seems to suggest that the Doctor was intentionally not co-piloting the Suit to the best of his ability to spite him and left the Emperor to do most of the control work.
