You're looking at a Z3000 Deluxe Hoverboard manufactured by Gadgetron. You can use it in races held throughout the galaxy. The hoverboard automatically equips as soon as you step foot onto an Official Gadgetron Hover Track.
When racing, use X to jump. You can perform tricks by jumping and pressing combinations of R1, R2, L1, and L2. Try using the left analogue stick to spin while in the air as well.
Find a Zoomerator to convert those tricks to turbo!

In-game description, R&C

Hoverboards are anti-gravity boards used in sport across the Solana Galaxy in Ratchet & Clank and Ratchet & Clank (2016 game). They are used by many racers, and Ratchet acquires his own board, the Z3000 Deluxe Hoverboard, which performed too well to be store-bought. He uses it to compete in hoverboard races on planet Rilgar and Kalebo III. In the re-imagined release, Ratchet's hoverboard is instead named the McMarx 4000 Hoverboard.

Ratchet is given an autographed hoverboard by Skidd McMarx, one of the best pro hoverboards, after helping him reach his ship by clearing the sandsharks on planet Aridia. He can then compete in the hoverboard race in Blackwater City on planet Rilgar, taking Skidd's place, and also in the race on Kalebo III to win the Hologuise from Wendall Lumos, the Gadgetron CEO.

In the original Ratchet & Clank, winning the Rilgar race earns him the Platinum Zoomerator add-on that allows Ratchet to gain boosts by performing tricks (an ability available by default in the-reimagined release), and showing this item to Skidd's agent, Don Wonderstar, on Aridia also grants Ratchet the Sonic Summoner. Ratchet also volunteered to be a star advertising a Hoverboard XZ88 for Gadgetron.

Use

The player can use a hoverboard when entering hoverboard races. The hoverboard continually goes forward, and Ratchet can jump with X and steer. Hovering past green targets on the ground allows Ratchet to boost speed. In Kalebo III, Ratchet can pick up rockets and fire them at other racers with Circle.

The player can perform tricks in the air which grant boosts. By pressing the trick button (L1, L2, R1 or R2 in the original Ratchet & Clank; simply R1 in the re-imagining) in mid-air, and moving the analog stick in a direction, the player can perform a trick which gains energy for a boost meter if landed successfully. The boost meter can be used by holding the boost button (Square in the original Ratchet & Clank, or R2 in the re-imagining) for a speed boost. In the original Ratchet & Clank, this requires the Platinum Zoomerator to be won on Rilgar before it can be used.

Performing a single flip will award the player a small number of boost points, though combining flips can award a large number. The large number of flips awarded for performing a more complex flip reduces by half points when used straight after; performing it a third time reduces the points awarded to a third of the points, and performing a fourth time reduces it to a quarter. However, performing the tricks with long gaps of time in between causes them to award full points again.

The Z3000 Deluxe Hoverboard is the first item acquired in Ratchet & Clank.

In Size Matters, the similar Skyboard is introduced and used to race and win prizes. It allows the user to fly in the air rather than to simply hover above the ground.
