Homing mines[1] are enemies in Ratchet & Clank, encountered at Qwark's headquarters on Umbris during "Survive Qwark's gauntlet" and in the bomb factory on Hoven during "Destroy the Planetbuster" and "Explore the Icy Wastes". They are floating mines that will either remain stationary until Ratchet approaches or will rise out of the ground in groups.
These mines are best destroyed from a distance, either using the Blaster or Pyrocitor before they approach, as they can otherwise be deadly in groups. Though the Taunter can activate mines and send them towards Ratchet, it is not advised, as doing so can result in a quick death.
The Ultra Supreme Executive Chairman Drek-Mech also releases homing mines in the battle with it during "Save Ratchet's planet", unlike the mines in previous levels this variant can be sucked up by the Suck Cannon.
Behind the Scenes[]
If Ratchet uses the Taunter in a section of Umbris where mines are visible but very far away, and then proceeds to equip the wrench, those mines will randomly trigger unexpectedly at any possible moment and from any distance Ratchet could be, eventually homing in on him and causing damage. This bug makes the Taunter a bad weapon to use on Umbris, and it should mostly be avoided.
