The Holo-Pirate Disguise is a type of hologuise gadget in Tools of Destruction. It enables the user to disguise themselves as a space pirate.

History[]

The Holo-Pirate Disguise was created by Percival Tachyon to spy on space pirates, though it was ineffective as Tachyon could not dance the Pirate Jig required to bypass pirate doorkeepers. As such, he offered it as a prize in the Imperial Fight Festival, hoping to lure Captain Slag to die in the arena.[1]

Ratchet, disguised as Mustachio Furioso, obtained the device in "Return to the Fight Festival", when Captain Qwark invited him back to the arena. He then used the device first on the Kreeli Comet during "Infiltrate the Pirate Camp". However, during "The Battle for the IRIS", Captain Slag alerted his crew to a "mangy lombax in a cheap Holo-Pirate Disguise", rendering it ineffective against all but the doorkeepers.[2]

The device was then again used at Slag's fleet in Ublik Passage.

Gameplay[]

The device is primarily used to access space pirate doors. To do so, Ratchet must walk up to a pirate doorkeeper and agree to dance the pirate jig, a minigame which requires the SIXAXIS controller to move correctly alongside three other space pirates. If the motion controls are disabled the left analog stick is used instead.

Outside of this, the disguise can be used to fool pirates to sneak through certain areas. It can be effective at sneaking up to a turret and destroying the pirate there before engaging. However, Ratchet cannot jump and moves slowly with the Holo-Pirate Disguise, meaning this is a less effective use of the disguise. In "The Battle for IRIS", the disguise is ineffective at fooling other pirates, but can still fool pirate doorkeepers.
