Ratchet & Clank Wiki

Grungoids[1] are enemies in Full Frontal Assault. They are the most common type of the grungarian marauders and serve as cheap, cannon-fodder infantry that attacks in large groups. Grungoids are the smallest and only non-bipedal grungarian subtype. They move around on eight stubby legs and have blue, green, or purple skin. Unlike other grungarians that have multiple eyes, a grungoid has only a single large one. It attacks by leaping and slamming a mace attached to its armored helmet, rather than by using its underbite of sharp teeth.

Grungoids also operate grungoid turrets, which serve as defensive emplacements on the battlefield.

Grungoids attack exclusively at melee range by jumping and slamming their mace down on a target. While a single grungoid is weak, their attack hits the base generators harder than average, and a large swarm poses a serious threat if left unchecked. Fortunately, grungoids have minimal health and can be dispatched with a single hit from almost any weapon or basic defenses like the Pyro Turret.

Elite grungoids, encountered in later levels, have improved armor and can withstand more damage than their standard counterparts.

In the campaign, grungoids appear in every level, and are often present roaming around. They normally attack bases in squads of five units in the earliest waves, often alongside grungarian brawlers. Elite grungoids begin to appear in the GrummelNet Plasma Harvester level.

In the multiplayer mode, a squad of ten grungoids can be purchased for 500 bolts during the Squad Phase to attack the enemy base. Both teams will always automatically spawn two squads of grungoids in either lane as well. An upgrade to elite grungoids can be purchased for 800 bolts. Grungoids are cheap and too weak to reliably throw against opponent's bases other than serving as a distraction or in hope that they completely lack suitable base defenses.
