The Great War is a historical conflict mentioned in Tools of Destruction, A Crack in Time, and the Ratchet & Clank comic series. It was a war between Allied Polaris (primarily the lombaxes) and the Great Cragmite Empire (primarily the cragmites) that occurred in the Polaris Galaxy long before the events of the Ratchet & Clank series.[a] The war resulted in the defeat of the cragmites and their banishment to dimension X2-49, with the use of the Dimensionator.
The aftermath of the war led to the lombaxes being hailed as heroes. However, the surviving cragmite, Percival Tachyon, after learning of his origins, swore revenge against the lombaxes and built an empire of his own.
History[]
The Great Cragmite Empire wiped out over a dozen races and decimated countless others,[3] moving from galaxy to galaxy using and discarding planets after depleting all their natural resources.[4] The Great Cragmite Empire fought the lombaxes in Allied Polaris. The Great Cragmite Empire had allies including Zorthan,[5] while the lombaxes fought wih warbot allies including Chief Admirals Cronk and Zephyr. During the Great War, the cragmite assassins wore Terraflux armor.[6]
Allied Polaris sent convoys through the Ublik Passage between the Verdigris and Praxus sectors, until the cragmites destroyed a neuron star to block them, rendering the passage unusable.[7]
Both the Great Cragmite Empire and the lombaxes in Allied Polaris were evenly matched, and the war became a stalemate.[4] A turning point came when the Center for Advanced Lombax Research invented the Dimensionator,[1] and thereafter banished the cragmites to dimension X2-49.[8]
The aftermath of the Great War led to Reepor becoming a dormant wasteland.[9] The lombaxes were declared saviors of the universe.[10][4] The cragmites were removed as a threat from the universe until long after,[a] when Tachyon, who had been discovered by lombax trillium miners on the Kreeli Comet frozen in an egg and raised him on Fastoon, built the Imperial Army and went to war against them.[1] Following the Great War, the Polaris Galaxy was still a dangerous place, leading to Alister Azimuth's belief that steps needed to be taken to protect it.[11]
