Glitch is a playable character in Rift Apart. She is a Resistance nano-systems IT bot, upgraded with Electro-Guns and Blitz-Infectors. She is given to Ratchet by Phantom on a small, portable storage device and assists him by clearing out Zeta Virus computer infections hampering his progress.
Biography[]
Glitch was created by the Resistance and was originally built for bypassing Nefarious system firewalls and clearing embarrassing search histories. During the events of Rift Apart however, she discovers insidious biomechanical Zeta Virus infections attacking various systems. She suffers from aspects of imposter syndrome and initially does not believe she has the capabilities to defeat the viruses, but she eventually grows in confidence. An uneasy heroine, Glitch does her absolute best to save the universe any way she can, no matter how small.
History[]
Rift Apart[]
After providing cover for Phantom at the Nefarious Day Spa whilst he hacked Emperor Nefarious' propaganda blimp, Ratchet was given Glitch to help him get into Nefarious Tower and acquire a royal starship to go after Rivet and Clank. Glitch initially was unhappy upon first meeting Ratchet and finding that she had been handed off to someone she was unfamiliar with. Ratchet introduced himself and asked her for her help in the dour situation he was in, she hesitated at first but decided to assist in hacking the access console in Nefarious Plaza. When plugged into the console, Glitch assumes she will merely need to delete some files, however she soon discovers an interdimensional virus known as the Zeta Virus attacking her and the system. She at first panics that she does not have the training to handle viruses of this caliber, but she cautiously utilizes her Electro-Guns and Blitz-Infectors to eventually clear out the infection, much to even her own surprise. After deleting the viruses and destroying the virus nest pods sucking energy from the machine, the host computer came back online. This unlocked the Emperor's private shuttle to the tower, allowing Ratchet access to the office of Emperor Nefarious and allowing him to leave the planet in a stolen ship.
Later when Ratchet traveled to planet Savali to get blueprints for the Dimensionator, he found that Nefarious Troopers had intercepted his arrival and were holding the local tribe of Monks hostage behind force fields. Ratchet needed to free them to get the blueprints from their dimensional Archives and so teamed up with Gary's apprentice; KT-7461 to rescue them at their temples. At the summit of the Mountain Temple, KT-7461 discovers that the terminal for the Monks' force field there, has been infected with a Zeta Virus and she cannot access it without risking contracting it herself. Ratchet sends Glitch in to clear out the infections and delete the pods hijacking the computer. She remarks that the viruses she is fighting are unlike any she's ever heard of and wonders where they came from. Glitch becomes bit by bit more confident in herself after she is able defeat the viruses again and reflects that the previous time wasn't merely a fluke after all.
After acquiring the blueprints, Ratchet and the newly renamed KT-7461, now using the name Kit, travelled to planet Cordelion's Kedaro Station and sought to use their Rubion Forge to build the Dimensionator. After some mishaps, Ratchet accidentally uses the wrong power function on the forge and destroys it, forcing them to try and use the forge in the alternate, abandoned dimension they had been shifting to using Blizon crystals. The utility robot Junk Bot informed Ratchet and Kit that the forge in this dimension has long been derelict and with no power, viruses have infected the system. Ratchet plugs Glitch into the forge's access console and she again gets to work clearing out the infection. She remarks with surprise that the viruses exist in this dimension too. Glitch begins somewhat becoming overly confident in herself here and feels that she has the viruses on the run. This however takes a bad turn for her when the viruses execute a trap that she narrowly manages to escape from. After escaping the ambush and finally bringing the forge back online, the Master Virus taunts Glitch and declares that they will see her again soon, if her luck manages to hold.
Later on planet Ardolis whilst partaking in the Pirate Trials to reach Captain Quantum, Ratchet and Clank found that the second trial was out of order, as the Grunthor contestants were required to fight had long since starved to death after it's food dispenser was left out of order. Ratchet noticed that the dispenser contained a Gold Bolt and asked Glitch to help them get it by plugging her into the machine's access console. After her near escape from the virus' trap last time, Glitch had her confidence shaken and began doubting her abilities again. Glitch recognized that the viruses were steadily evolving and becoming smarter, leading her to question if she could stop them anymore, but insisted that she had to if no one else will. The threat of the Zeta Virus had gone largely unnoticed with Glitch distressed that even Ratchet believes it is just an average computer virus. After managing to clear out the infection again, the Master Virus spoke to Glitch a second time and assured that they would talk face to face soon, with Glitch reafirming her commitment to stopping it.
On a return visit to planet Savali to acquire the Dimensional Map before Emperor Nefarious, Ratchet and Clank made their way to the planet's catacombs to retrieve the map from a dimensional anomaly. Just before entering the catacombs however, Ratchet came across a door with another Gold Bolt behind it and it's access console infected with viruses. Upon being sent inside, Glitch found this to be the most badly infected system she'd seen yet, with the Master Virus describing it as their own slice of home. The Master Virus remarked that the dimensions breaking open gave them many new chances to spread and their encounters with Glitch helped them learn and develop further. Glitch fought through the viruses with renewed vigor and eventually confronted the Master Virus themself, who attempted to demoralize her by regarding her victories as simple luck and that she will inevitably fail if she continues further. However, Glitch was determined to complete her goal and retorted that her victories were down to skill, not luck. Eventually after much fighting, Glitch managed to destroy the Master Virus and the Zeta Virus with it. In astonishment of her own progress, Glitch reflects on her humble beginnings of merely deleting old files and how far she has come in such a short time. Just before being destroyed, the Master Virus threatened that as long as dimensions keep breaking open, Glitch will never be rid of them. With the conclusion of the events in Rift Apart however, the damage done to the dimensions was repaired and the threat of the Zeta Virus continuing to spread was halted.
Due to the urgency of their quest to save the dimensions from collapse and stop the Emperor, there was no time for social pleasantries. So in the ending credits, after the danger had passed, Ratchet placed Glitch's hologram on a large projector and properly introduced Clank, Rivet and Kit to her.
Abilities[]
Whilst inside computer systems, Glitch is able to walk on walls and ceilings that are connected to the floor using her spider/crab-like appendages. She is armed with twin rapid firing Electro-Guns, often used to delete swarmer viruses in defense along with rockets on her back known as Blitz-Infectors to destroy virus nest pods. In most of the systems she enters, Glitch is able to find an upgrade that will intensify the power and spread of her Electro-Guns, changing them in color from blue to purple. In her third endeavour fighting infections, she collected a Nuke Pulse upgrade allowing her to collect the power stolen by defeated viruses to let out a large shockwave and destroy all viruses around her perimeter. Glitch previously had training with the Nuke Pulse and recounted what she was taught after finding it.
She can also reroute power away from viruses that have hijacked computers to make shields for themselves and deactivate them. Although she verbally talks out loud to herself and the Master Virus, she is unable to speak to Ratchet and is only able to communicate using various computerized facial expressions and body language via a hologram of herself. She however is perfectly able to understand Ratchet when he talks to her.
