Ratchet & Clank Wiki

Cordelion is a planet featured in Rift Apart. It is a world covered in vast oceans and the location of Emperor Nefarious' undersea Kedaro Station. The facility is the most secure outpost in Rivet's dimension and where the Nefarious Empire conducts it's most secret research. Housed in the station is the Rubion Forge; an incredibly powerful manufacturing machine, responsible for creating many of the Empire's battle mechs, armors and Nefarious Troopers.

Two versions of Cordelion appear in Rift Apart; the version in Rivet's dimension and another in an alternate dimension where the Kedaro Station has long since been abandoned. This unknown alternate dimension is only ever referred to as; the "abandoned dimension", the "other dimension" or "dimension ???".[1]

It is not known if Cordelion also exists in Ratchet and Clank's dimension in the Polaris galaxy.

History[]

Pre-Rift Apart[]

Rivet's Dimension[]

The Kedaro Station was constructed many years ago on Cordelion by the Nefarious Empire to hide it's experimentations and most classified dark projects. The facility was established on the planet's ocean floor to also take advantage of the crushing pressure of Cordelion's boundless oceans and use it in their new experimental Rubion Forge. Although the forge's capabilities were proven to be outstanding, it required a considerable amount of energy to function. An unexpected solution to this was soon found however.

The Emperor himself one day noticed an unusual creature swimming in the waters close to the station and ordered it to be captured. The creature was found to be a strange biomorph of some kind and was capable of ingesting bio-electricity which it then stores and amplifies with its eight stomachs. This effectively made it an infinite source of expanding energy and the perfect battery for the Rubion Forge.

Not long before the events of Rift Apart began, the Emperor designed a giant combat mech for himself based on his own appearance and ordered it's construction to the Science Bots at the forge. He named it the Imperial Power Suit and intended to use it for special occasions against his greatest enemies.

Dimension ???[]

In an unknown alternate dimension, the creature was instead first discovered by a utility robot named Junk Bot who developed a friendship with it. Upon revealing it's existence to his fellow workers at the station however, he was dismayed when they forcibly captured the creature and used it's extreme amounts of bio-electricity to make it a living battery for the Rubion Forge, similar to what happened in Rivet's dimension. Later in his distress, Junk Bot broke the creature out of it's containment and it proceeded to decimate the facility, leaving it abandoned for several years. During these years Junk Bot named the creature Juice and stayed with it on the abandoned station, where the utility bot's mental health deteriorated in his extended isolation.

This alternate dimension appears to be an offshoot of Rivet's with certain events playing out under slightly different circumstances. The old remains of Nefarious Troopers in the abandoned station indicate that an alternate Nefarious Empire and presumably an alternate Emperor Nefarious was in control of the facility at one point before the creature broke free and went on a rampage.

Junk Bot's counterpart in Rivet's dimension had no such relationship with the creature, meaning it never escaped it's confinement and remained a battery.

Quest to Build a New Dimensionator[]

Upon acquiring the blueprints for the Dimensionator from the Interdimensional Archives on planet Savali, Ratchet is informed by his new ally Kit that the only forge powerful enough to construct the device is located at the Kedaro Station on Cordelion. Being a former warbot in service to the Emperor, Kit possesses detailed knowledge on the inner workings of many assets to the Empire.

Two Cordelions[]

Cordelion Kedaro Station Royal Starship Ratchet Kit Rift Apart

Ratchet and Kit arrive at the surface entrance to the underwater Kedaro Station.

After arriving at the Station Security Checkpoint at the surface entrance, Ratchet and Kit accidentally alert the station's security forces and the facility is put on lockdown. Whilst looking for another way inside, the two find a glowing, purple Blizon crystal nearby. Ratchet is instructed to strike it with his wrench by Kit, and the two are shifted into another dimension where the Kedaro Station has been abandoned for several years. The weather is much colder in this dimension, with snowfall and ice blanketing the planet's surface. Upon taking an open elevator down into the abandoned station, Ratchet and Kit find the facility in ruins and evidence of violent struggles throughout.

Junk Bot and Juice[]

Juice Ratchet Kit Junk Bot Rift Apart

Juice hunts Ratchet throughout the derelict Kedaro Station.

They soon meet a lone survivor in the station named Junk Bot, who offers to help the two find more Blizon crystals once his access arm is recovered from a flooded room. On the way there, Ratchet is startled by a savage creature stalking the station's halls, who Junk Bot explains is his friend Juice. Upon finding some Blizon in the Manufacturing Division, Ratchet and Kit say their goodbyes to Junk Bot and gladly shift back to Rivet's dimension to escape Juice. Upon reaching the Rubion Forge however, the two are confronted by Junk Bot's counterpart and interrogated. Kit quickly thinks up a cover for them and proclaims that they are royal interior decorators sent by the Emperor. Out of fear of upsetting the Emperor, Junk Bot meekly allows them to be on their way and the two head to use the forge to create a new Dimensionator.

A Change of Plans[]

Zeta Virus Infected Console Rift Apart

Dimenion ???'s Rubion Forge infected by the Zeta Virus.

Ratchet attempts to power up the forge, but mistakenly uses it with auxiliary power only, causing the machine to badly malfunction and be destroyed. Nefarious Troopers then begin pouring into the room and attack Ratchet and Kit. The two manage to escape and retreat back to dimension ??? using another Blizon crystal. With the forge destroyed in Rivet's dimension, their only option now is to try and use the one housed in the abandoned Kedaro Station. The forge here has long been dormant, and as a result it has become infected with Zeta viruses. Ratchet sends Glitch into the computer system and she succeeds in clearing them out.

Finding the Power Source[]

The two set off in search of a power source downstairs in the Biology Division, but find nothing. Ratchet suggests they go back to Rivet's dimension with more Blizon and steal the power source from there. While looking for more of the crystal, they run into Juice again multiple times as he hunts them throughout the station. On the way, they venture outside through the Fennessy Trench along the ocean floor and re-enter the station to escape Juice with another Blizon crystal.

New Friends[]

Juice Juices Rift Apart

The two versions of Juice meet each other.

Back in Rivet's dimension in the station's Bioharvesting Division, Ratchet and Kit discover for themselves that the power source is Juice himself. They free this dimension's Juice from his containment and he helps Ratchet defeat the station security. The three then use more Blizon to escape back to dimension ??? together, where the two different versions of Juice meet eachother at the Rubion Forge. The two Juices become calmed by the other and their vicious behavior dissipates. In thanks for Ratchet's help, the two then use their bio-electricity together to power up the forge, allowing the Dimensionator to finally be recreated.

Junk Bot is overjoyed that Juice has finally found his composure again, and the inclusion of his counterpart to their circle of friends. Ratchet and Kit then say their goodbyes and return to the surface, where they use another Blizon crystal to finally return to Rivet's dimension and leave the planet. In the ending credits, Junk Bot in dimension ??? is seen on the surface of Kedaro Station happily greeting several more benevolent members of Juice's species in the Cordelion waters.

Geography[]

Overview[]

Cordelion Planet Rift Apart

Planet Cordelion.

Cordelion is primarily an ocean world with vast majorities of the planet being covered in water and small isolated land masses visible from orbit. It's waters are extremely deep, reaching crushing pressure levels and home to some rather strange, undiscovered creatures. The seafloor also features trenches that reach to even further unknown, abyssal oceanic depths. Land formations on the surface however seem rather barren and devoid of foliage, consisting of many craggy islands jutting out of the waters. The planet appears to have a temperate climate, with mild temperatures shown in Rivet's dimension and freezing snowfall in dimension ???. By the end of Rift Apart, the cold weather in dimension ??? appears to have diminished and is in the process of thawing out.

The multilayered Kedaro Station constructed on the planet is built directly into the seafloor. Entrances to the facility can be found at heavily guarded security checkpoints on the surface, with extensive elevator systems leading directly into the facility.

Behind the scenes[]

With so many of the Empire's most powerful creations being manufactured at the Kedaro Station, it is possible that Kit herself was created at the facility.

The main power button for the Rubion Forge is shown to have a skull and crossbones drawn on it in both dimensions. The reason for this is that using it causes pain to Juice in the process of forcibly extracting his bio-electricity. The symbol confused Ratchet, leading him to believe it was dangerous and initially avoided pressing it whilst using the forge's controls.
