Drophyd sentries[1] are enemies in Tools of Destruction. They are drophyd infantry units fighting for the Imperial Army, equipped with nanotech combat armor and melee weapons, as opposed to their ranged drophyd trooper counterparts. Some drophyd sentries, known as drophyd defenders,[2] employ shields that block low caliber weapon attacks. Others make use of cloaking devices that make them mostly invisible and unable to lock onto with weapons.
Ratchet and Clank first encountered them in Metropolis, Kerwan, during Emperor Tachyon's invasion of the planet. The drophyd defenders are first fought in Stratus City, Kortog, while the cloaked sentries are fought on Zordoom Prison, Viceron, whereafter sentries are only again encountered during the cragmite attack at the lombax ruins on Fastoon.
Characteristics[]
Drophyd sentries have a humanoid nanotech suit. Their arms are pincers, and they attack by slashing forward with them. Their pace is relatively slow as they hobble toward Ratchet. Drophyd sentries rarely travel alone, and often either battle either through teleportation or by Tachyon transport ship.
Drophyd defenders have a large, red riot shield that they carry with their left arm. The cloaked drophyd sentries have a cloaking device on their back, and are difficult to see aside from a strange distortion around them.
The elite troopers wear thicker, all-black armor even covering their visor.
Combat[]
Drophyd sentries can deal moderate amounts of damage if they land a hit. Their slowness and moderate durability means that they pose a relatively small threat. These enemies can be defeated with ranged weapons such as the Combuster and dispatched with relative ease in groups through the Fusion Grenade.
The drophyd defenders using shields can be tougher to deal with, as the shield will block low caliber attacks from the wrench, Combuster, and other weaker non-explosive weapons. One option is to get around behind their shields, while another is to use stronger weapons such as the Fusion Grenade or Negotiator, or neutralize their shield with the Shock Ravager or Groovitron.
The sentries using cloaking devices will strike when Ratchet is nearby and are hard to see, but hitting one deactivates their cloaking device for a few seconds. They cannot be targeted with weapons such as the Predator Launcher or Nano-Swarmers, but direct-fire attacks such as the Shard Reaper are effective against them.
