Ratchet & Clank Wiki

Drophyd cyclocannons[1][2] are enemies in Tools of Destruction. They are two-wheeled tanks in the Imperial Army, with rapid-fire laser cannons, that they sweep across the area in front of it. The cyclocannons are operated by a drophyd in a cockpit in-between the large massive wheels.

Ratchet and Clank first encountered them in Stratus City, Kortog during "Escape Tachyon's Forces". They then defended the spaceport of Rykan V in "Defeat the Imperial Forces", and the cragmite ruins of Reepor in "Secure the Area".

Cyclocannons are somewhat more difficult to dodge due to their constant stream of rapid laser fire, and their ability to rapidly turn around, but their main challenge comes in their durability. As such, it is important to use stronger weapons against them, beginning with the Fusion Grenade and Plasma Beasts, and later substituted with the Negotiator or Alpha Disruptor. Devices such as the Groovitron are helpful against them due to their strength and durability, especially early on.

Cyclocannons drop a large amount of raritanium upon defeat.

Behind the scenes[]

According to their unused Galactipedia entry: the drophyd cyclocannon is manufactured by GrummelNet Industries. The wheels of the cyclocannon are titanium alloy and can crush a star cruiser, while their weapon is a 270 caliber hypersonic iridium fission cannon - believed by GrummelNet to pack enough power that it will kill a lombax with one shot.[3]

The first type of upgraded version encountered later is known as the giga class cyclocannon. The giga class was developed by GrummelNet on special request from Tachyon, it possesses liquid-hydrogen-cooled fiber-armor shielding and high density plutonium ore missiles.[4]

The second type of upgraded cyclocannon with black armor are referred to as obsidian class cyclocannons. This model was created by GrummelNet as a result of imperial decree 21905, which stated that they must create a "thoroughly lombax resistant cyclocannon", with decree 21906 also stating that they could not publicly reveal and of the vehicles material or components. The obsidian class is the toughest and deadliest vehicle developed by GrummelNet, to the degree that they feared for the galaxy's future when turning over a single shipment to Tachyon.[5]
