Destroy the VX-99 is a mission in A Crack in Time, taking place in Axiom City on planet Terachnos. Ratchet and Alister found the location of an Obsidian Eye within Krell Canyon, but Dr. Nefarious was aware of their transgressions and decided to send the VX-99 to try and kill them.
Completing the mission will unlock the bronze trophy Savior of Axiom City.
Walkthrough[]
The VX-99 will be in the distance initially, and you will have to fight a few waves of Nefarious Troopers, including Splitterbots and Protoguards, before the VX-99 destroys the edge of the platform. It will use two of its arms to send a double laser strike towards you, forming an elongated 'X', which is fairly easy to avoid. Follow Alister's instructions and jump onto the extended grav-ramp panels on the bottom of the VX-99 when he hits it with his ship.
In this next phase of the boss fight, you will be stuck on a cylindrical grav-ramp made out of three panels, with each laser able to attack one half of each. At first, you can stand in the exact middle to avoid both lasers as they attempt to track you. Later, you can just run around in a circle. Eventually, the top will start to spin. The lasers will still track you but are slow to catch up as they rapidly cross each panel one by one. Keep moving to the top and bottom when they start to get too close.
Eventually, the lasers will stop, and you can start to remove one of the arms by cranking an exposed bolt crank. This will cause the entire panel to fall off, but the simplest strategy only requires one anyway. The next time the upper body starts to rotate, it will also pause and go in reverse a few times. Keep repeating your previous actions, disabling each laser arm one by one until all three are defeated, and you are launched to another platform again.
Break the nanotech crates here to heal yourself, as a dropship will quickly appear to spawn in Protoguards and Cyclobombers. The dropship will stay behind and wait within the rear. Defeat the troopers, at which point another dropship appears, followed by Alister who destroys both at once. Alister's ship has a versa-target you can latch onto, letting you use it as a taxi to combat the VX-99 up close.
The VX-99 will be in a protective glass casing at first, so focus on the four devices attached to it. Attack them one by one until all are destroyed while avoiding the lasers skimming across the floor. Watch out for the laser patterns changing as you destroy more of the devices. Once all are gone, Alister will bomb the glass shield, letting you attack the boss directly.
The VX-99 will repeatedly attack with twin blasters, which can be avoided by continuously strafing. After losing over 33% of its health, its lasers will return, with two running clockwise and the other two counter-clockwise. This forces you to watch carefully where to jump while also strafing and returning fire. Try to keep a Mr. Zurkon active at all times, as well as a few Tesla Spikes to chip away at its health bar. The strongest weapons at this point are the Dynamo of Doom and the Constructo Bomb, with all combined being able to take down the boss.
After its defeat, you have a limited window to latch onto Alister's ship again before the boss explodes. Escape safely to finally complete the mission, after which you can "jump to the Korthos Sector", which immediately leads to "Follow Sigmund to the Orientation Room".
