Defeat Otto Destruct is the final mission in Size Matters taking place in the Clone Factory on Quodrona. Ratchet and Clank fought through the factory and confronted Otto Destruct, who revealed his intentions of using his Ratchet clone army to gather every intelligent being in the universe and transfer their intelligence to him.

Defeating Otto Destruct will unlock the gold trophy Full-Otto Annihilation.

Walkthrough[]

After using the Gadgetron vendor near the start of the mission, head forward and a cutscene will commence. The mission spans multiple stages, each with a different challenge.

Ratchet clone battle[]

In the first challenge, the objective is to survive three minutes fighting against Ratchet clones. Unlike those in the previous mission, these are typically elite clones in two types: one are lean, faster clones that use a flamethrower to attack in close range, while the other are larger, muscular clones using a shotgun to attack in medium range. The former are best picked off with the Laser Tracer[a] individually, or the Shock Rocket in groups; the latter are more durable, and thus the Laser Tracer is effective, as it also blocks their Concussion Gun blasts. A few basic Ratchet clones using Lacerators also appear, similar to those in the previous missions, though the same tactics apply.

As survival is the key, use the opportunity to defeat enemies for bolts and for upgrading weapons, instead of trying to complete an objective. Make use of the Acid Detonator, Agents of Dread, and Killer Bee Mine to also add supplementary firepower, and equip the Static Barrier at all times for protection, in order to survive three minutes. If ammo is exhausted, stall the enemies by running until the timer concludes.

After surviving the Ratchet clone attacks, a chase sequence begins where Otto Destruct uses the Shrink Ray to create hazards. Simply run forward and jump over the gaps he creates, while dodging the falling lamps.

Giant Clank battle[]

A Giant Clank battle occurs against Otto Destruct, though unlike previous Giant Clank uses, this takes place on land, and Giant Clank has the same controls as Ratchet. Giant Clank can fire rockets, though they have limited ammo, which is replenished by destroying nearby buildings.

Otto Destruct will either hover in the air firing missiles (reticules appear on the ground for where to dodge them), or land and fire in front of him. His second attack mode deals more damage, but can be avoided by jumping. Giant Clank's melee attacks deal the most damage and are the most effective way of damaging Otto Destruct, so simply jump repeatedly to avoid Otto Destruct when he's on the ground, but otherwise pummel him with melee attacks and continuously fire rockets. You can also jump and fire to hit him in midair.

Once Otto Destruct loses his health, a cutscene commences, before the final phase takes place.

Final boss[]

A Gadgetron vendor appears in a room before Otto Destruct is fought, and a teleporter can be used to return to the ship. It may be wise to return just to buy more mods from Slim Cognito, as multiple weapons may be needed for this battle. This is also one of the few times when the PDA is valuable. Purchase the Laser Tracer if not already owned, as well as the PDA, then prioritize mods such as the Double Barrel Mod for the Dual Lacerators, the Launcher Mod for the Agents of Dread, and if possible the Acid Burn Mod for the Acid Detonator.

The Static Barrier is near-essential for the battle, as a few of Otto Destruct's attacks can kill Ratchet even with full Mega-Bomb armor equipped. One way to do this efficiently is to activate the Static Barrier before entering the battle with Destruct, purchase ammo for it from the vendor, and then enter, granting effectively six charges.

In the first stage of the battle, Otto Destruct levitates, covers himself in a shield, and attacks by using holographic claws projected at Ratchet or sending waves of energy across the ground or through the air. The fists are easily dodged by a well-timed sideflip, or by moving away with a long jump, whereas the waves are avoided by either jumping or crouching. When his shield is down, he will be vulnerable for a few moments before it reactivates. The real challenge here is to deal damage to Destruct as quickly as possible; destroy his shield and deal damage quickly before he heals up. The Laser Tracer is effective for both tasks at dealing quick damage, though the Shock Rocket and (fully upgraded and modded) Dual Lacerators are suitable alternatives. All weapons are regardless best backed up with your autonomous weapons that do not need active fire to be used.

After Otto Destruct is down to 2/3rds of his health, the battle changes. He will no longer activate a shield, but stays in the air and throws out attacks with greater intensity, as well as green bomb attacks aimed squarely at Ratchet. Once again, avoiding these attacks is crucial as it only takes a few of them to kill Ratchet. The waves will come in much quicker succession, usually three, but also up to five nearer the end. The claws are replaced with fists, only one of which attacks, although they can still be avoided by moving away with a long jump. All previous weapons remain somewhat viable, and relying on throwing down autonomous weapons while using active fire-weaponry remains the most effective strategy.

When Otto Destruct is defeated, the final cutscenes and the credits play, following which the option appears to warp back to before defeating Destruct (in order to obtain any skill points or titanium bolts), or to enter challenge mode. It is normally a good idea to obtain all secrets first, before then proceeding to challenge mode to obtain items exclusive to it, including two exclusive sets of armor, unique mods, as well as all Titan weapons.

Notes[]

  1. On the PlayStation 2 version, the weapon is bugged; its ammo consumption rate is so high it becomes nearly useless.
