Defeat Captain Slag is a mission in Tools of Destruction, taking place at Slag's fleet in Ublik Passage. Ratchet and Clank managed to make it to Captain Slag and his first mate Rusty Pete, aiming to retrieve the stolen Dimensionator.

Walkthrough[]

Slag initiates the battle by launching homing blue hooks at you. These hooks follow a curved trajectory and can often catch you off-guard from the sides if you attempt to dodge them. Given their cumulative effect, it is highly advisable to destroy them. However, only a few weapons excel at this task. Therefore, it is essential to rely on either the Nitro Reaper or the Pyro Blaster (both preferably fully upgraded). Both weapons can simultaneously damage Slag while effectively eliminating the hooks.

Once Slag sustains enough damage, he will momentarily retreat and summon several buccaneers to his aid. This is a recurring pattern throughout the encounter. Employing the Mag-Net Launcher proves effective against these pirates (one net per pirate is sufficient), as it cannot be utilized against Slag directly. Most other weapons will also suffice, but it is crucial to reserve your most potent weaponry for targeting Slag himself. After dispatching the pirates, Slag will return to the deck. In addition to his hook-throwing, he will occasionally pound the deck with a hammer, creating a slow but substantial shockwave.

Slag's only other attack involves consuming grog and expelling it thrice as a narrow line of fire. This attack is not directed specifically at you, but rather in front of Slag, functioning as an area denial tactic since the flames persist for a certain duration. During the hammer and grog attacks, you have an opportunity to retaliate with your own arsenal. It is recommended to utilize weapons such as the Alpha Disruptor, Negotiator, Nano-Swarmers, Buzz Blades, and Pyro Blaster. However, refrain from employing the Razor Claws as Slag's electrification makes him too dangerous to approach. Additionally, in critical situations, deploy your devices as distractions (Groovitron), support (Mr. Zurkon), or for health replenishment (Mega Leech Bomb).

Upon defeating Slag and triggering a subsequent cutscene, you will acquire the Treasure Mapper. This convenient tool reveals the locations of gold bolts and unveils 'hidden' areas on your map. Hidden areas are subtly highlighted and primarily contain raritanium chests. Unfortunately, the Mapper does not disclose the whereabouts of holo-plan pieces. Considering that gold bolts often accompany a stash of raritanium, it is advisable to promptly revisit previous worlds, particularly Mukow, Ardolis, and Ublik Passage itself.

Once you feel prepared, use the Aphelion to follow Captain Qwark to the planet Reepor.
