Ratchet & Clank Wiki

Corson V is a planet first appearing in Rift Apart and home to the enormous, bustling city of Megalopolis. It serves as both the tutorial level and later the final level in the game, similar to Veldin in the original Ratchet & Clank and The Great Clock in Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. As a result of Emperor Nefarious' usage of the Dimensionator in his invasion of this Corson V, he briefly turns Megalopolis into New Nefarious City, however this is undone when Clank averted the dimensional cataclysm and restored every dimension using the Dimensionator.

Not much is known about the planet or city, but the name could suggest it has ties to Megacorp, similar to Megapolis.

It is a dimensional counterpart of the Corson V in Rivet's dimension, where Megalopolis does not exist and is instead replaced with Nefarious City.

The Festival of Heroes[]

Megalopolis Festival Rift Apart

The Festival of Heroes in Megalopolis.

It is here that Captain Qwark organizes the Festival of Heroes to celebrate the past heroic accomplishments of Ratchet, Clank and of course himself. The festival is hosted by Qwark himself, along with Ratchet and Clank's old Q-Force ally; Skidd McMarx and their enemy turned acquaintance, space pirate; Rusty Pete. The festival is soon interrupted however by the recently rebranded Goons-4-Less, attempting to assassinate Ratchet and Clank under orders from Dr. Nefarious. Clank had rebuilt the broken Dimensionator from the duo's previous adventure and was planning on gifting it to Ratchet so he may find his lost race; the Lombaxes, in another dimension. Nefarious stole the Dimensionator during this and was pursued throughout the city. During this, the duo ran into Mrs. Zurkon at her vendor and purchased a new weapon to help in their fight against Nefarious and the goons. The Doctor confronts the two at the train station and attempts to use the device against them, however Ratchet impulsively shoots it's Phase Quartz power core and damages it, causing the dimensions themselves to begin unraveling, leading the Dimensionator to become more and more unstable and sending Nefarious flying in an explosion into a nearby building. After making their way through the sky train station and a taxi stand, Ratchet and Clank catch back up to Nefarious at the gardens area and battle him in his party crasher mech. Before he can be defeated however, he opens a rift before the Dimensionator eventually explodes to bring Ratchet and Clank with him to a dimension where he always wins.

Emperor Nefarious' Cross-Dimensional Invasion[]

The Emperor's armies advance into Ratchet and Clank's dimension to invade Megalopolis.

Much later, Emperor Nefarious; an alternate dimension counterpart of Dr. Nefarious, seeking to expand his empire's reach, invades Ratchet and Clank's dimension using a newly built Dimensionator and begins his conquest of their universe with Megalopolis, attempting to turn their dimension into his own. Ratchet, Clank and their new allies within a Resistance force against the Emperor, follow him and attempt to fight back his invading Nefarious Troopers at the Midtown Mall. Along the Midtown Skyway, the Emperor unveils his Imperial Power Suit and an enormous battle takes place against his forces. Ratchet manages to disable the giant mech with the help of the allied Goons-4-Less, Space Pirates and Savali Monks by destroying its bio-mechanical heart from the inside.

The Imperial Power Suit collapses onto the Midtown Atrium.

Ratchet and Clank's dimensional counterparts and allies; Rivet and Kit then battle the Emperor himself at the Midtown Atrium and finally defeat him together. The Dimensionator is retrieved just before the Emperor can overclock it and destroy all the dimensions in his rage and he starts to be pulled into a rift by an angry kraken. While the Emperor attempts to resist being pulled in, Dr. Nefarious confronts him and having felt nothing but contempt for his self-obsessed counterpart in the time he came to know him, delivers the final blow to Emperor Nefarious, sending him to his presumed doom. Clank then uses his knowledge of fixing dimensional anomalies he came to understand throughout the adventure with the Dimensionator to fix the damage that was done and stops the dimensional cataclysm from occurring. Afterwards, the city celebrates Ratchet, Clank, Rivet, and Kit's success.

Corson V Megalopolis Map Intro Rift Apart

Megalopolis introduction level map.

The planet has a climate and geography very similar to that of Earth, with the orbital view showing green landscapes, blue oceans and skies. Megalopolis is quite densely populated with many different alien races, full of extremely tall sky scrapers and huge building structures, similar to that of Metropolis, Megapolis, and Meridian City. It's structures are all largely sleek white and pristine, with blue and green tinted windows. The tops of some buildings are capped by orange, transparent domes. There are several long stretching skywalks across the city for commuting civilians. The city's public locales have a good amount of vegetation blooming on their structures, with numerous wild potted plants, trees on rooftops and multiple garden areas with freely growing grass. To vitalize the local plantlife growth, most of these areas also feature copius amounts of artificial waterflow systems, including; shallow fountains, ponds and waterfalls. The vegetation is well maintained however and kept in trim condition.

Locations[]

At the heart of the city stands a huge, unnamed towering structure that is situated where Nefarious Tower is located in Rivet's dimension. It is a landmark of the city and featured in numerous pieces of tourism material. The city's interplanetary Train Station is a huge commuting hub for people leaving or arriving on Corson V, with trains arriving from Torren IV and departing to Savali. It sits just across from a public Park area. As well as public transport, the station also functions as a cargo train terminal for large shipments being made in and out of the city. Closeby is a busy Taxi Stand, often used by passengers arriving at or leaving the station. Across from this is a large public Gardens area. Other notable locations include the Midtown Mall, the Midtown Skyway and Midtown Atrium.

Behind the scenes[]

The parade floats depicting Ratchet and Clank's first meeting on Veldin and the Blarg occupations of Kerwan and Kalebo III all use the version from the 2016 reimagined movie and game. The reason for this is that these are Qwark's own recounted version of the events and he is credited for helping organize the festival.

The parade balloon of Big Al at the Festival of Heroes depicts him as having grown a mustache by the events of Rift Apart.

The parade float depicting the Great Clock features several letters from the Zoni language alphabet written on it. These letters do not translate into anything intelligible however and are simply decorative.

Ratchet Greenroom Concept Rift Apart

The scrapped green room beginning of Rift Apart.

During the dimensional chaos affecting the planet a giant gladiatorial robot similar to the Fixer falls through the train station, almost hitting Ratchet and Clank.

An unused concept for the beginning of Rift Apart had Ratchet and Clank starting off in a green room getting pampered during the filming production of a Holovison show or holofilm. This concept however did not make the final cut and the Festival of Heroes in Megalopolis was used instead as the game's introduction event.

Some of the alien citizens found both in Megalopolis and Zurkie's are seen wearing peculiar headwear that on initial observation does not seem unusual in the Ratchet and Clank universe. These are in fact direct references to the iconic Energy Dome helmets often worn and associated with the American rock band DEVO. The groups co-founder, lead singer and keyboardist — Mark Mothersbaugh, is also a composer of music in movies, televison and video games, and created the soundtrack for Rift Apart with Wataru Hokoyama.
