Carbonox is a recurring substance in the Ratchet & Clank series. It is an alloy that is a combination of metal alloys and nanotechnology, providing immense protection for its users. Manufactured originally by Megacorp, the substance is used commonly in armor both worn by Ratchet, but also in certain robot enemies he has fought over the years.
Carbonox first appears and is mentioned in Going Commando, as the Carbonox armor purchased by the player and mentioned as the armor used by enemies fought. The armor has since been mentioned in other titles, before appearing as a full Carbonox Advanced armor set in Rift Apart, used by Ratchet and Rivet.
History[]
In Ratchet & Clank (2016), the Doom Blades fired carbonox-fiber blades.[1]
Carbonox armor was used in the B2 Brawler, a robotic gladiator in Galactic Gladiators,[2][3] and in the Megacorp Security Robot I - Chainsaw v2.0 in an alloy combining carbonox with raritanium.[3] In Going Commando, Ratchet fought both these enemies, and purchased carbonox armor that granted him a 90% damage reduction.[4]
Around the time of Up Your Arsenal, Gadgetron Corporation used carbonox alloys imported from the Bogon Galaxy in its Infernox armor, which combined the carbonox alloys, a nanotech control system, and an onboard Quantum Hellfire generator.[5] Around the time of Deadlocked, Vox Industries' weapon, The Arbiter, was developed with carbonox-piercing rockets.[6]
The Prog Blades featured in Into the Nexus were modified by Neftin Prog to utilize carbonox-fiber blades.[7]
In Rift Apart, in Rivet's dimension, Ratchet and Rivet acquired pieces of the Carbonox Advanced armor, a new-and-improved version of carbonox armor.[8]
Characteristics[]
Carbonox alloy uses a combination of metal alloys (new at the time of Going Commando) from the Bogon Galaxy,[5] and nanotechnology to grant protection.[4]
The armor appears to have relatively low weight despite its protection. It fits as an armor for Ratchet without impairing his ability. Although the B2 Brawler weighed six tons,[2] it was a much larger machine than Ratchet's armor.
Behind the scenes[]
The Hero difficulty level of Deadlocked describes all enemies as having been supplied with carbonox armor.[9]
