The Brain Scientist is a character in Ratchet & Clank. He was one of Chairman Drek's blarg scientists on planet Gaspar, who collected telepathopus brains as a hobby to pursue his passion for amateur neuroscience, and to get revenge on his co-workers.
History[]
One of the scientist's co-workers, Darryl, stole his tuna sandwich from the company fridge. The Brain Scientist set out on a quest for revenge, seeking to harvest as many telepathopus brains as he could to tap into their psychic powers and raise an army of the creatures.
Ratchet's encounter with the Brain Scientist.
When Ratchet and Clank arrived on Gaspar, the Brain Scientist offered the XK-81 Jetpack in exchange for ten telepathopus brains, and an infobot for Batalia in exchange for twenty more brains. After this, Ratchet and Clank collected up to 90 telepathopus brains, for which he offered a reward of bolts per brain, and once all were collected, he provided the Box Breaker, which also increases bolt pick-up range.
It is unknown if the Brain Scientist's telepathopus brain experiments were ultimately successful. Regardless, he remained upbeat that he was at least keeping busy.
Characteristics[]
He is a blarg who wears a white lab coat, a shirt with a brain image, a red telescope helmet, and a backpack holding two green canisters of green liquid.
The Brain Scientist has an odd obsession with brains, particularly those of telepathopuses. He is made fun of by the other blarg for his hobby, but is not deterred from it at all. Unlike the other blarg, he holds little loyalty to Drek and is primarily interested in his passion for amateur neuroscience.
He claims to have done a lot of difficult things in his life, but by far the most difficult was saying the word telepathopus ten times fast. A feat he believes is impossible.
Behind the scenes[]
Concept art.
Richard Horvitz provided the voice of the Brain Scientist.
On the Blarg Tactical Research Station in the Blargian snagglebeast testing facility, and in the weapons testing area on Kalebo III, several blarg scientists use the same character models as the Brain Scientist.
The Brain Scientist's design appears to be based on Stanley, a blarg character in the movie.[2]
