Blarg space commandos[1] are enemies in Ratchet & Clank and the 2016 re-imagined game. They are blarg soldiers working for Drek Industries who wear space suits to fight in space stations, such as the Blarg Tactical Research Station and the Gemlik Base, as well as the uninhabitable planet Orxon. Their gun fires a laser on the ground which then let out waves of energy that travel ahead of them.

History

In the original release, the blarg space commandos were fought in three locations. In the Blarg Tactical Research Station, Nebula G34, they were encountered throughout during the missions "Explore the space station" and "Explore the blarg warship". In the Kogor Refinery, Orxon, they were encountered during "Explore as Ratchet". Finally, in the Gemlik Base, Oltanis orbit, they were encountered in "Explore base", with slightly better range on their weapons.

In the re-imagined release, the blarg space commandos were fought twice. First, they were fought in the Blarg Tactical Research Station, Nebula G34, during the missions "Find the top secret Blarg research project" and "Search the Blarg Warship for weapons". Later, they were fought in the Blarg Research Outpost on Gaspar during Ratchet and Clank's attack on the Depot in "Fight the Blarg". Finally, they were fought on the Deplanetizer in the first visit during "Disable the Security System", in the Gadgetron Headquarters, Kalebo III, during "Find the Focus Lab", and on return to the Deplanetizer in "Head to the Core".

Characteristics

Blarg space commandos carry a gun and wear a space suit, with a helmet covering their head to provide oxygen, allowing them to fight in inhospitable areas. When attacking, after getting into position, they will fire on the ground to hit their targets, but will remain stationary while doing so. In the original release, their suit is green, and their oxygen mask is transparent, revealing their face. They wear a jetpack, though they do not use it at any point. In the re-imagined release, they are slimmer, wearing a black suit, and an orange helmet that entirely covers their face.

Combat

Blarg space commandos will fire on the ground, releasing a wave of energy that will travel forward in a wide stream on the ground. This attack must be dodged by jumping over it, though as the waves of energy are easy to spot, they pose only a minor threat. If Ratchet gets too close, they will instead whack him with their gun. In both releases, they are best defeated using ranged weapons that can kill them before they fire too many waves to jump over, or by approaching them in melee range and using the OmniWrench.

Notes

In the original release, blarg space commandos can get hit from attacks from their allies, but will not take damage.
